Something about seeing long hair down someones back makes me bubble with anger....

I wear a hairnet to compete (normally), but I have very long hair, can't say it bothers me >.>
Only thing that bothers me, is people that don't wear hats - but that is hardly aesthetic just plain stupidity!!

surely not?! :O i think i would find my arms and legs completely useless in this situation! you are sullying the good name of horse riders!

but seriously why does it matter? most of the time i dont do anything with my long hair! doesnt bother me in the slightest and i couldnt care less what anyone else thinks!
although i do admit it looks tidier at a show..
 
i have very long hair, either shove a hat on, or shove it in a pony tail, it flaps everywhere :D doesn't bother me one bit tbh, but i do wear a hairnet for shows.
 
Wow this is a crazy post!! Really? This bothers people?! I have fairly short hair, but tie it in a ponytail, mostly to stop it getting all gross and sweaty. AND I have a fringe! However, I dont fall over in shock when I see people with longer hair dangling down!
 
I could recommend a good shrink. You desperately need one or you'll be having an acute coronary come this show season.
 
it never, ever occured to me that how i look out hacking would irritate somone! i've long hair usually loose or in a pony tail, i'm mid twenties and also have a (brilliant :D) colored hat silk, i usually tend to wear jeans/jeggings or endurance jodhpurs with boots/chaps. my horses, god forbid, don't wear matching tack and wear a combination of a snaffle headpiece with rope halters and rope reins. and we are both usually sporting half a tonne of mud between us, at this time of year!

none of that bothers me - i ride/hack to have fun, not to win a fashion contest!

What about men with long hair then? This is my son . . . . but he does tuck it up into a baseball cap round the yard and into his hat when riding

I don't mind pony tails at all really, only a slight bit of jealousy that i don't have long blonde hair. I really don't like long hair not tied up at all though with bits sticking out all round the hat and ears poking through urghhhh i hate that. It could be the best horse owner in the world but the impression i get is that if they don't care about their own appearence then are they lazy in other areas too. It also makes me think how annoying it must be and i'm not sure how anyone could stand to ride for an hour like that.

I think there is a difference between people who work with horses and people who only have horses as a hobby. If you've been dressed smart working in an office all day maybe it is nice to look scruffy and carefree when you ride but when riding is work it's nice to have a bit of pride in your appearance

Green eyed monstor here (and with OP) for sure. I wish I could get one of the pretty ponytails but mine is too thin so have to go with matronly hair net.
 
Haha oops may have been feeling a tad melodramatic yesterday (I blame it on cabin fever - way too much studying plus partner being away so being on my own in the house - never a good combination ;) )

May have been some slight embelishment for my own personal humour, but nice to see it elicits such a response :p (it still bugs me though!!)

P.S. Kokopelli are you trying to give me a heart attack??!! :p
 
I don't care or get angry if people have loose hair/ponytails but it does rather set my teeth on edge. I'm not a squeamish but there's three body things that make me go all funny in a bad way - eye balls, breaking bones and scalping. The idea someone could be scalped if they fall and their horse steps on their pony tail makes me feel ill, and I can find it hard to watch those that have their hair flapping around, even though the risk is thankfully tiny!

Sadly, no matter how hard I try my horse always looks a scruff bag - think I will have to be really mean this year and get him scrubbed up properly when I go out - why oh why did I get a grey :mad:

Jesus christ, someone having a pony tail bothers you?

I think theres far worse thing to notice at shows, like silly little kids ragging there pony round in a pelham then booting it up the backside with a pair of spurs on.
As long as the rider is wearing the correct kit I couldnt care less for any other aesthetic

Yes, its in a hairnet when I compete, but I am not going to bother doing that for everyday!
So sorry if my long lucious hair bouncing down my back irritates you but I am not going to change it ;)
 
Ha ha ha!! I love it when my pony tail swishes round when I'm cantering.

There are some girls on our yard though that don't ride with hats and the ones with long hair don't tie it up either and they look ridiculous (although I would imagine they probably think they look frightfully romantic and boho with all that hair tumbling all over the place).

I too have weird, irrational reactions to things but don't have the guts to post them on here for fear of getting shot down in flames LOL!!!
 
Everyone should have short hair like me then there would be no issue ;):p
But I do suffer from terrible flat hat hair, when I had longer hair it didn't matter cos I could just scrape it back.
 
i usually ride with me hair down simply because the bobble always falls out when i have my hat on and so to save on the loss of bobbles i dont wear one. I have never done a proper show before but at the pony club comps at my old riding school we were encouraged to wear a hairnet but normally i just wear my hair down under my hat.
 
I got very confused at a recent dressage competition when the competitor came into the arena with a long plait down their back. I was trying to match up the appearance of the rider with the name on the sheet. All became clear as they trotted past the judge's box to see that there was also a beard!

Someone had a quiet word before the next class and the plait was underneath the jacket.
 
I have very long black hair that I tie into a ponytail when I ride. Love the swish! It matches my horse's tail as well ;)

In fact, I forgot my hairnet for dressage and just tucked the ponytail into my jacket on Sunday! I would love to ride without a hat and my hair streaming out behind me, but I would never ride without a hat!

And as to the ponytail being chavvy - I am assure you I am as far removed from chav as is possible! Literally!

No, I think if you are SHOWING you should be turned out properly with your hair out of the way.
On a hunting morning I generally have more bobbles and pins and hairnets on to keep my hair in, can't stand it flopping about.
I'm not too bothered out hacking, as long as it is tied up well.
I hate people riding in wellies though- eugh.
 
Agree at a show hair should be tied back or in a net or both, riding with wellies can be dangerous they easily get stuck in the stirup, but hey we all do things we shouldnt at times life would be boring if we stuck to all the rules.
 
Showing or hunting I would, if I'm just off jumping or even just riding at home etc and I've straightened my hair the night before that is :D (vanity strikes again:o) because it takes me ages trying to tame the fizz our of my fuzzy locks after I've washed it, otherwise I'd look like a poodle, so I ain't stuffing it all into a hair net, but I do agree with you, it looks a lot smarter in a hair net/bun.

Sometimes though I even put my hair into a hair net when I'm just riding at home schooling or hacking, in fact I go through quite a lot of hair nets to be honest.

....therefore am I still in dog house? :D

Obviously for Showing and Hunting as its more correct to do so but at unaffiliated shows or riding at home, I don't see the problem?
