Don't know, but suspect they will use anything they could to wriggle out of paying for you. Maybe wise to make tentative enquiries about expected safety equipment?

I haven't had to supply any info at all apart from my name, age and address! It's a company one so isn't tailored for me. Chatted with the MD and he said not to worry that I ride. I would be interested in general with private healthcare insurance.

PMSL!!! Thank you - I have likely had the best time I've ever had on this forum.....all this laughter in just a couple of minutes .... priceless!

Gosh you know Tia, Im sure you could make a lot of money teaching your 'survival skills' to us poor hatted mortals.
I am going to sell my horses and take up knitting, as clearly wearing a hat means I have no riding ability. Ta ra all!

Having trawled through all the posts on the above now, there is only one thing I would like to say which may seem a little over the top but this is obviously a strongly felt heated debate.

We fought two world wars to be allowed to have a choice and not to be dictated to. Everyone in this country has a right to choose what they do with their own life. Whether it be wearing a riding hat or body protector, smoking, wearing a seatbelt, drinking themselves to oblivion, the list is endless.

Laws are made by people who think they have our best interests at heart - but at the end of the day we all make our own choices in life and that is exactly how it should be.

So do or don't wear a hat - it is your choice and no one should condemn you for it. But I do feel children up to an age when they can make their own choices should wear them - as they do not always appreciate the risks they are taking as most of the young riders I know are fearless (including the girl in question at the top of this post!)

NUFF SAID!!

Thank you for the compliment - yes I am a pretty darned good rider.

Unfortunately lots of people really can't ride to save their lives.......literally!

It has nothing to do with being a good rider, even Mark Todd, WFP, Carl Hester etc etc fall off are you better then them?

I don't want to be rude, Tia, but you haven't aged well have you? And it's time you bought a new suit.
Now that I've seen you, I suggest you keep going hatless, and if possible have a good strong drink of absinthe before you get in the car.
'Cull the aged!'

Ahh I must have written that in too subtle a fashion.......that's always been my trouble on here; my love of irony just overcomes me sometimes.

Edited to add; no I don't ever worry about ANY of mine spooking over here. They just wouldn't ever do that.

Goodness you do talk complete bollocks sometimes (or is that all the time?)

I realise that some comments on this thread were made tongue in cheek, others with total sincerety. It just astounds me that if people who have dependants (children/elderly parents etc...) would risk riding without a hat. I totally accept that is up to the indivdual - there have been times in my life when I have ridden without a hat afterall, so to condem it would be hypocrisy at it's height! However, I'll never ride again without a properly fitted hat! That is my choice!

P.S. As a woman, it is my perogative to change my mind at any given time

I said no. 99% of the time I wear one, but if I am bringing my own ponio in from the field and there is someone there to give me a leg up and lead him then I ride bareback without a hat

Very hypocritical of me, I know how stupid it is but on the other hand if I had to leave the horse to walk home to get my hat it would ruin the moment
wink.gif
A lot of the time I tend to wear my hat to go and fetch them in anyway.

At the end of the day though how many of you drive whilst on the phone, don't wear a seatbelt or whatever? Even once. I'm not condoning it, I positively hate seeing people ride without hats, but I'm not perfect myself so I can't really comment.

On a serious note, I've had to tell 16/17 year olds that their friend had died...and that is something I never ever want to have to do again. Funerals of old people are sad, but somehow bearable...but the funeral of a young person is so wrong on every level.

I always wear a hat, i would never not wear one. I always wear a BP for jumping though and for hacking on my mare and horses I don't usually ride. I know my gelding inside out but would never consider riding without a hat, just not worth the risk!

I saw a lady up my yard the other day riding in a BP but no hat

couldn't quite work that one out!

It may be your choice but we end up looking after you in hospital, wiping your backside and feeding you. Perhaps you could save us all time and money by signing a disclaimer and organ donation card. Then as you don't seem to care about the consequences we can just give your organs to someone who may value their life more than you.
I'm sorry if this seems harsh, but working in a hospital you see the results of tragic meanless accidents all the time and it's those left behind who suffer most.

As a matter of interest can you tell me what the difference is between falling off a horse whilst not wearing a hat. & people going out getting completely blitzed on booze & drugs. In the latterI know for a fact that the NHS & Police attend to 100's of them every night of the week. Personally I dont like tax payers picking up the tab for that either. But hey thats life. I am damn sure most of these people dont have private medical Insurance. (either way in an emergency the first port of call is the emergency service)

As I previously said I live every day as it were my last. I don't "do" regrets - I live my life and I take all risks into account.

And no, you won't be looking after me sweetie, as I'll be around for a while yet.

Of course it is. There are no other veggies in the hospital except hatless riders...well and possibly the brussels on Sundays.

When I'm Empress....I'll mend the roads, ban men driving who wear flat caps, tax BMW and Volvo drivers heavily (as they seem to be the most dodgy drivers in my experience) and tighten up UK internet controls to avoid Canadian interlopers gaining access.
And you?
