Something for a snowy afternoon - Badminton early 80's

I don't know - it might not be Kings Jester, but it looks a lot like Jane. This photo is Kings Jester btw:-

She was/is a very classy jockey though!

Second to last pic looks more like Mark Phillips than Ian Stark, on Classic Lines? (could have got horses name wrong?) Classic somethingorother.
He had white shirt and black hat colours too..

Looking very classy indeed... But to the person who said tack has changed alot, i beg to differ, two brestplates ie top and bottom, fluff round the saddle (ok, not as big as todays, but it's still there) boots alround.. And not everyone rides in big bits todays, some people still like a good old fashioned snaffle..

and not forgetting the weight cloth.... now there's a subject for a debate i think. personally i think it makes it a much more level playing field if there is a minimum weight although i apprieciate maybe some of todays smaller horses might find it hard but that is one reason most of these horses look like a different type it was a different game entirely then

Just noticed the lead packs as well - do you remember when you had to weigh in/out!
I did the finish/weigh in at Punchestown a couple of times, we would help get saddles off (not as many grooms around then!) and those that had to carry lead weighed a ton!

dont you worry i am well practised in the use of weight cloths !! actually still use them now if groom is significantly lighter than rider when doing fittening work and also if need the horse of a very light rider to make more effort.

i have pictures of the mid 80's at gatcombe i have no idea who the horses or riders are, but with the saftey information with are armed with now it makes me cringe to look at the size/width,, ect ect.. its my project over the weekend to try and scan them in and upload them so you can all see them and tell me praps who they are!!

ps

how do i get pics i have scanned in, in a place to be able to post/???? anyone know??? please make it in a language a blonde person can understand!!!

Absolutely FAB pictures!! Agree with Kit279, that looks like Jane to me.

Really enjoyed looking at these, thanks for posting!!

No idea who any are as wasn't even born then

but I can tell you I wouldn't like to jump some of those fences but would love to see some like them on courses again. Horses all look like proper "event" horses to (ie mainly TB with a dab of something)

I recognise some of them but can't put a name to them. Is the one in white jumping no 9 Mark Philips?

The thing about the photos is that they make the fences look smaller than they were. That down-hill rail is on a seriously steep slope.

Alright, there are a couple that literally do have only simple tack and small boots.

Person I went eventing with over the summer is the same.

Just noticed none of these 5 point breastplates comes martingales with massive boots, grease, nose strips etc

I think it's a bloke

. Just checked in her book (no, really there is NOTHING on TV tonight

) and she seems to wear white with a brown cap for the early part of her career then dark green with a small bit of gold when she gets sponsored later on.

Thanks for those, if anyone has any older pics I'd be interested to see them, our stallion's dam was called Harper's Bazaar ridden by someone called Bridget, I recall seeing some Badminton pics of them competing there in her owner's house but would love to see any of the course around the time she was competing probably late seventies?

according to friend with better memory than me, it's prob Nigel Taylor not Toddy, and one is maybe Rachel Bayliss, and one is Lizzie Purbrick (and Gurgle the Greek perhaps?), Bruce Davidson with red jumper. Mark Phillips on bay with green bandages, apparently his always had green bandages!
