Hi all, being totally new to the H&H forum today, I am really hoping someone can advise! We have a 12hh rescue pony who is approx 5-6 yo. As we don't know his history I've started from scratch doing what I'd do with any youngster. So all was going well until today - I noticed when I went to long-rein him that his tongue was over the bit. I say 'over' but actually his tongue was practically rolled up in a ball at the back of his throat, so it was really neither over nor under the bit, just withdrawn out of the way -
. I immediately changed the bit from a happy mouth jointed with cheekpieces to a Magic bit which is straight like a Mullan but with a port and I THINK this helped. Certainly he was happy enough in his work but then when I took the bridle off again I'm pretty sure the tongue was up to its antics again - its hard to say when you can't see whats going on in their mouth 100% of the time. Anyway any help would be greatly appreciated - his teeth have been done, and I'm not keen on too many gadgets, tongue-tying, or using nosebands to strap his mouth closed (at this stage anyway). Thanks in advance!
