Something has bitten Merlins willy

Poor boy.... his sheath has a swelling on it where something has bitten it

He is weeing normally, so know its nothing more serious...

What would you put on it to sooth it

(Dont really think it needs the vet as its only the outer sheath, rather than the willy itself

)

This happened to my horse too and he swelled up. I put aloera gel on to sooth the area. When he was turned out I put a liberal coating of sudocrem on there so that he had an actual barrier against the flies. It is messy and will make his tail abit greasy but it does seem to work. I also use udder cream and put this up between his legs, under tail as we have crab flies (in the New Forest) and this stops them and others from getting a grip and biting. Hope that helps.

Strange thing is that his sheath was smothered in some net tex fly cream that is supposed to repel everything, and they still got him

I though that he might have had a reaction to that, but it is too localised and I can feel the actual bit site

mine has been getting similar recnetly,poor boy. i bought some fly cream to put on the sheath to try and repel them but it just seems to have made his skin sore - silly, sensitive chestnuts!

Merlin has a black mans willy..... in more ways than one now!!!!!

Ihave put this cream on for about a fortnight.... so assume that he isnt sensitive to it,.... There is a definate swollen area about the size of a flat golfball but not so round if you know what I mean (not like an abcess would be)...

Bastard horseflies, it must have zoomed in and had a swipe at him

On a positive note though, he now actually seems to like to come in during the day now...... relaxed instead of frantic like he used to be

Llewi looked like he had boobs the other day - there were 2 swellings in front of his sheath dripping serum from nasty fly bites. They are complete bastards and save going up there every hour reapplying fly spray I just dont know what you do about them.
