Is people yanking the lead when the dog has done nothing wrong. When I was doing my fun ride yesterday, I saw a lady yank her poor dog SO hard! The dog hadn't barked, hadn't gone for us, it hadn't done a thing! Do people forget that the collar is around the dogs neck? She pulled it so hard, it looked so painful :(

I see it far too often!

Don't be so quick to assume. I have a lab who looks like butter wouldn't melt, but I can feel him getting 'locked on' to another dog/person/horse and sometimes need to jerk him out of it before he goes into melt down. A second of discomfort to stop him running blindly is worth it imo (as a result dog is only exercised of private property, it's now only an issue if going to the vets etc)

Just because you couldn't see the issue, doesn't mean there wasn't one.

Of course there are many many idiots around, some who know so little about animal welfare and training it astounds me their dogs are still breathing!

This dog was tiny though, a toy poodle or something. It was enough to actually spin the dog right around! I have given Annie a tug or two to avoid bad situations, but she could have lessened how hard she pulled the poor thing

I've seen people doing that a lot with very small dogs who weigh next to nothing, they just don't seem to realise that their dog often ends up suspended by their neck :(

Yea :( it's not so bad with a big strapping lab or German Shepherd, but with a little lap dog...vile!

Years ago I took my then dog to a local training class. The lesson was "walking quietly on the lead without pulling" My dog wasn't pulling. The "trainer" told everyone to yank their dog back to them. I didn't. No need, even if I agreed with the method. Trainer balls at me "C'mon!!! You as well!" I refused and gathered my dog and left. Never went back. Stupid woman. Just what was she expecting to gain by correcting something that didn't need correcting?

I'm with you OP. Unnecessary from your description.

I agree, some people are way too harsh with their dogs. Of course disipline is needed, but not by almost breaking its neck. I hate having a collar on my puppy, Im terrified of hurting her but at the same time she has to get used to it - luckily she's naturally very good on the lead.
