..not really....but... as some of you know, I have two chestnut mares. They hate each other....except when you attempt to separate them. Now they are united in their common hatred of new boy, Jasper. Field politics very ugly. Saff has a cut following her ludicrous pig-avoidance escapade, previously documented. She can now go out, but wound must be dressed and vet-wrapped. Trouble is, Purdey will not allow her to be caught and Jasper just tries to be helpful and friendly and gets them both in a megabate. I was nearly quadruple barrelled today...leading saff, Purdey circling me and snarling, virtually, Jasper being Jasper... Had to let go of Saff when Purdey turned onto a snapping dragon, wheeled round to boot me and tried tp boot Jasper at the same time who, in turn, took a bit of a flier at her. HORSES!!! Why can't they just play nice?????

that's doesn't sound like much fun

hope they settle down soon or maybe you can split them up somehow?
we have smaller paddocks as well as a few larger 1's so any new horses or just anti social 1's can be kept alone but with company next to them.

i no what you mean! once one starts they all have to join in

What a hoot! With a ned I had previously, I always fancied entering the ring at our local County Show and the announcer calling over the Tannoy "And now entering the ring is Barbara riding her own horse Jellymeat Whiskas".....

Ahhh, chestnut mares, don't you just love 'em

Seriously, it ain't fun when they're like that. Mine got a smack on the arse when she turned into a she devil with a new & very nervy little filly. Introduced over field fence etc but literally mine was literally going for her. The final straw was when my 14.2 mare cornered the little 10 hand filly & was lining up for a nice double barrel to the face & chest.

I chased her off with a lunge whip. Not advisable, not text book & not something I'd reccommend you do but desperate times call for desperate measures.....

Hope it works out though because as I said, it isn't fun
