Going to rant, just really dont like people at this moment

I rent land, and with permission of my landlady I am allowed one or two other people to share it.

I dont often as admittedly I am not great to share with, as I like my solitude.

Anyway someone I thought was a friend was getting made very uncomfortable where they were. I knew both the yard and her, and I had always thought that she helped them, and I knew that they could be a bit funny at times (tell me one horse person who isnt about something?!!!)

So I opened land up for her and her two, but along came her friend with two, and her partner/ex with one old pony

I looked and went oh c@@@@ too many, promptly tried to get hold of the land next door to help, but it was on at least a month hold before they would make a decision. I made it clear to my "friend" that there were too many horses and something would have to go if I didnt have it, as I was not willing to have no grass.
I point out here, that I do not need to share, I am not a buisness, and that while the moeny would be useful, it would also be put back into improving the place.

In this time they made me (and the other friend I share with) uncomfortable being there. and then kept finding reasons to not pay the next months rent (paid first) so I gave them notice to leave, final straw was when at a public event they were overheard slandering me by independent people.

In this time, what a surprise a few of my bits vanished.....

So they leave, taking about 6 hours to move 4 equines......and then refuse to take the last one..... the partner/ex's

Its still there, condition score 1 aprox,(I know they had major weight problems with her for years) and my suspision is that it has been left for me to put down at my expense, which I cant as I am not its owner. So more stress, them slating me that I was playing them (I should have thrown them out there and then but was trying to be honorable)
I now wonder come winter about rugging mine.....will rugs etc vanish? leaving them naked and shivering (they had several rugs with different postcodes I have since been told by their last yard)

So rant nearly over. Why the hell did I try to help these people? Was I stupid or what? Nothing but stress and stupidity on my part AGAIN

and this poor pony. Again has that been left behind to "spy" on me? to stitch me up with the condition it is in. So how would you best deal with that

And yeah forget about the rent that between them they owe me, its under £200, and they playing the horses belong to one person then the other.

Just feeling stupid, and wondering when I will ever learn

Not a nice situation to be in.
If you are a BHS member call their legal helpline for advice about the pony left behind .
People whose land a horse is on have a duty of care , this could land both you and the owner of the land in trouble so you need to act quickly.
See what the BHS say but I think at least a registered letter to the ponies owner would be a start point as might calling the BHS welfare officer .
Get good advice fast.
Good luck.

I think I would notify your local council's animal welfare dept that a horse has been abandoned on your land.

I've also learned the hard way not to even have friends as liveries.

Im sorry to hear about your circs and would also be contacting the BHS helpline.

I have to point out that your thread title is spelt incorrectly - despair would be better! Sorry OCD moment as its the 2nd one of the day!

If they have been slandering you in public, I'd take some pictures of the poor abandoned pony in all its glory on your camera phone then show them to anyone who will listen at local events, tack shops etc.

As others have said, never have friends as liveries. They know far more about you than strangers and can and will use that knowledge against you.

I agree....stupidly being a soft touch though.
But I count myself lucky,
I now know who and what she is, and wont come near with a bargepole.

However, done photos today......when you look, please dont cry, as she has gained weight while with me, but without a rug to put on her, and with her wanting to stay alone most of the time, so she wont come into the barn for hay when it gets cold......
And she needs to for shelter from wind, I have told them it will kill her.

I also know that she is a nightmare to get weight on, as the yard she came from are super at getting them looking round. She wasnt invited up in the first place.

It was for them to feed her, etc, I gave them a field and let them get on with it. Especially when the mind games started

What are you going to do? Is she sharing the field and barn with others? If so, and she's so poor, she might not actually be able to go in the barn, the others might not let her. How old is she? Has she seen a vet?

Sorry, lots of questions, but I'm also in Kent. Have you contacted a welfare agency for advice, I would suggest WHW.

sadly you could be prosecuted for the condition of this horse. you need to get them to come and take this pony-if they dont take responsibility you should do as others have said and report it as dumped.

Left a message on WHW tonight, they may remove her tonight/tomorrow, but she is still reported now, and I will still give them owner info and photos. Hes trying to say I said that he couldnt remove her until he paid.....I said that he needed to pay before she went to my bottom field. Its all part the gangs mind games.
She is supposed to be in her 20s, can be really shy. The barn is big enough for all to go in (but does leak in places) and has plenty of escape routes. There is plenty of grass still, but she was stood by water ttrough area when i did photos.

really sorry that this has happened, sorry I have no advise, but just wanted to say, this is the sort of thing that would happen to me! you certainly find out who your true mates are in situations like this!

I hope you can get it sorted, and the poor old lady, I hope someone can help with her! that's such a sad thing to see!

So now the next one
I am now LIVID
they were asking if anyone knows livery for it as aparently tomorrow I am going to get the hunt in and have her shot.......that twist has come from me saying that it wont survive the winter on the side of the hill,( which is totally bitter)

Guess what a friend of mine told me, as I actually have some.

She is still the best liar I have ever met

Sounds like you're best off out of it! people are complete idiots!

Ok, you have told WHW - well done, they will understand as they do deal with trying circumstances often.
Stick to your guns, let them (WHW) collect pony - make sure you take plenty of photos (dated if possible).
Get your signed paperwork from WHW so you have proof - and then let WHW deal with the problem.

Owners have no leg to stand on as this is clearly a neglect case, as pony needs vet & exploratory bloods etc to determine why so critical.

What nasty pieces of work the owners/friends/hangers on are!

Do NOT stoop to ex-owners level (bluddy hard) but keep doing what is right for pony at this stage, better she goes to WHW than back to uncaring, negligent owners!

Oh the poor wee thing and poor you. tellingWHW was a good positive move but I so feel for you. please please keep us informed and lastly just a big hug

I don't think WHW will have committed to pick up the pony firstly they have never seen it and secondly it would be an unlawful .

Hmm, the shy bit almost certainly means not regularly handled in my experience. Where I kept my girl there were two little ponies which before they came, we were told they were very old, arthritic and didn't go out much. The truth was that they hadn't seen a farrier in at least 6 months so could only hobble about on their flipper sized feet, one was about 9 and the reason they didn't go out much was because their previous paddock was beside a road and the entrance to a public garden centre so the state of them would easily have been seen and reported. They were both getting increasingly feral and even touching them in the field was a big ask. Occasionally the "owner" would turn up and decide they were getting laminitic and lock them in their filthy stables for 3 weeks at a time with a bit of hay thrown over the door, beds that were dirtier than the muck heap, and the same water unless it was knocked over so it was usually green. YO didn't want to know. They actually were reported to the RSPCA a couple of times but apart from getting their feet done a bit more frequently (the 9 year old suddenly discovered it could run about bucking, so sad) their basic conditions didn't change and of course there is never any follow up.

The pictures show either a VERY elderly pony and/or one that has something going seriously wrong inside. Either way, it needs a vet pronto. Poor little soul.

Op youve had such a bum deal by these nasty pieces of work, and no doubt youve had rotten sleepless nights over it, but for the sake of this poor pony, im glad its happened as youve been so good, looking out for this poor wee guy, its given this poor pony a chance of a better life hopefully treated by vets and rehomed by WHW, so i know youve every right to be p155ed off and angry at being out of pocket at the owners, but im sure the pony will be eternally grateful and what goes around comes around :-)

Do you know where this person has relocated her horses to ? If so do a quick "reccy" to assess ease of access (ie no locks on gates etc) and box the horse over to her.

Then raise a bill and send it recorded delivery to her home address for the £200 livery arrears and extras (full livery for horse + transport costs).

Give her 14 days to pay and then issue an intent to commence court proceedings for the non-payment of monies owed.

If you can't return the horse to her then still send a bill this time just for the livery owed up to their departure plus full livery for the horse to date (say £20 per day since abandoned) and an intent to continue to charge them that rate per day until the horse is removed. Inform them that if the horse is not removed by x date that it will be sent to the next auction and the proceeds offset against outstanding debts plus transport costs to the auction. the balance of any debts will then be pursued by you through the courts.

I would also offer her an early settlement amount of £200 plus removal of the horsee if its done within the next 7 days. At least this way you will be rid of the problem.

Must admit the first thing I thought of was if you know where they've moved to, just take the horse over there and leave it in one of their stables and send them a text to say where it is, and don't be shy about telling anyone the whole story on their new yard who sees you and asks what you are doing, in a loud voice (particularly if the YO is around!)

No point sending them a bill as they will not pay it and will no doubt think they are even more clever for "getting away with it" than they already think they are.
I would also get hold of some fake CCTV cameras and install them around your property.
Poor horse by the way, it is in a terrible state!

What a horrid situation. I have had similar with someone I thought of as a friend and learnt my lesson. I wont share with anyone ever again !. The state of that pony if you can find a rescue to take him, that has got to be better than letting them have him back. He wont survive the winter at all if something isnt done. Have you tried any of the local horse rescue places ? Not sure where you are in kent.
Sorry that you have been lumbered like this but that poor little pony .......

So somehow they removed her.......
I dont know (yet) where they are, but the word is going out. Plus her history (which is online for anyone to find) is going out through another network
I have warned people I know, and told them to warn anyone they know.

Nothing more at this point I can do. Except find out if they went through my landladys garden to get her out, as if not they have cut keys though they were told not to, and the only padlock would have been the one round hinges that they could get to.
Which will then be changed.

I feel dreadfully sorry for pony, as I was fond of her. Just get people looking out and locally getting truth known.

Poor pony. Rather than dump the pony back with them to continue suffering, I'd be going to route you have of reporting it to someone who can take it as an abandoned animal, that way it will get the attention (whether that is pts or care) that it needs. Think new padlock & fake CCTV both excellent ideas.

Padlocks replaced before they removed pony.....but think they took her through my landladys garden, which I cannot lock as they come through the field......I would never have cheek to do that, but they may have spun her a yarn or two, as they seem very adept at doing. I am trying to catch her, to sort anything out that they may have said, but we have an amicable agreement. I did tell her that I was telling them to go becuse they were causing trouble though, and she is a phsychyatrist, so hopefully she saw through the lies!!!
