Well, we finally did it! My little boy, who's two and a half, has had Honey (aka Genghis) since March. We've just been having rides in the field and she went to a show with my 9yo neice in May as she had never left the stud farm she was born in so thought it advisable before trusting her with my little boy!

It was our local large agricultural show today and there was lots going on so we got there in time and got a nice spot in an empty area of the lorry park. Dispatched OH and son off so I could settle Honey down - she was on her toes but settled really well after a nosy around and a quick lunge. Time to get tacked up - pic of browband made by moi - first attempt and really quite chuffed:

And in we go to the best turned out pony class:

It was a pretty strong class and to be honest I was just glad we all stayed together :D But we got a nice medal and a big frilly rosette for 5th place!:

My little boy was so proud and has been an absolute star! Honey got a bit fidgety in the line up and he gave her a gentle smack on the neck and told her to 'stop it!' - worked far better than my attempts. He was also working the crowd - think he thought they were all there for him - he waved all the way around our first lap!

And Honey Genghis pony has also been a star - it was obvious she was a bit excited and over-awed but as soon as Jacob got on she settled down and looked after him.

And here we have my two favourite pics of the day:

So, there we have it....I have somehow found myself immersed in the world of lead rein showing....and will admit to quite enjoying it! Whatever next?! :D :D

Aww he looks so pleased with himself!!

Where did you get those tiny leathers. When I bought our cub saddle I was sold "the smallest they make" however she is a tall 3.5 yrs now and they are still twisted round the irons about 4 times. Think she will outgrow the saddle before they fit grrrr!

Thanks everyone! We had such a fab day. My little boy is still smiling :D :D :D

Just doing supper and been out and got him a Smarties cake to celebrate. Brill start to his competitve career lol :D

oh i so ,love these reports on honey-ghengis and jacob:D he has a very infectious smile your boy, i'll bet his giggle is too. :D there is nothing nicer than to see a child really and genuinely enjoying their pony:)

They both look brilliant - your son is a cutie! Love his little buttonhole to go with Honey's browband as well - a lovely idea!
