Son's first fall off pony!

Aaargh, blood pressure returning to normal now but just experienced a milestone.

We have a lovely little LR pony for my little boy who's 2 1/2. We've had her about 3 months now and are now venturing out round the 'big field' and he's riding without support - just his cub saddle. Started trotting with me grabbing hold of his body protector for additional support so everything has been going brilliantly.

Today we went off exploring through the 'big grass' but just before we got there the pony did a full body shake and shook him out the saddle; que slow mo fall out the (other) side door and me running round to grab him :/ I was expecting tears and refusal to get back on but instead he got up, hugged Honey, patted her, said 'It's OK. Back on now!' :D .

We then proceeded on two laps of the field, a little bit of trotting and he didn't want to get off.

As his mum I never want him to get hurt or have a fall but it happens and I had my share when I was little (and still do now too occasionally). As falls go it was a very soft one. He's fine and shown he is fearless - good lad!!! :D

oh bless him, :D have to admit i did have a little smile at the 'full body shake and disappearing son ' i know it's not funny when it's happening:o
Think of it as a good introduction to falling off, nice and controlled and no one got hurt, and even better your cute son got straight back on;)
 
What a lovely photo - your son's smile says it all.

It's so hard being a mum sometimes (well, all the time), but you can't wrap them up in cotton wool and have to let them experience life.

It sounds as though he coped really well. Bit of a milestone, I suppose

Wishing him many happy hours in the saddle.
 
Shaking feels really horrible to sit to, a stylish slide out the side door is perfectly acceptable :D gorgeous little pony, and massive well done to your son for hopping back on. He's a great little jockey :)
 
Haha, yes she is still called Ghengis, or rather Honey-Ghengis!!

She is a PB welsh - dam was a Sec A, dad is Beckside Little Toff who's apparently some top showing sire?

She is fab - bit full of attitude around food but is good as gold with Jacob. She moves brilliantly too so hopefully we will do some LR showing soon (though doubt Jacob will be up for the seemingly mandatory ribbons in his hair ;) ). Already had her out with my 9yo niece to her first ever show and was well placed so high hopes! TBH, I would have bought her if she had been pig ugly as she was just so nice natured but it is a bonus that she's a cute little thing.
 
lovely wee pony :) this made me laugh and reminded me of my first fall! It happened during a full body shake...I still hate them!
 
Very cute. And really, whilst it may not be health & safety approved I think it can be a good thing to have the odd safe fall. Imo injuries are a lot worse when someone gets fearful & tense, which doesn't happen when they've had previous experience with a nice (for want of a better word) fall. So sweet when tinies ride.
 
Bless him, daughter has never fallen off when her pony did this, butit used to always make her cry :(

Her first fall was when we were on the pony search , they were doing really nicely, until daughter decided to put pony near a jump, so pony did as asked !!!! Fast forward to her flying off, she was very upset, as was I, but it did help as she now realises accidents happen, and is not so cock sure about her self :)

I think that this may have been the case - think he is a reincarnated cowboy as he likes to just hold on with one hand to the saddle/reins. No matter how much he's told he seems to slip back into this. However, he was much better at keeping hold after the 'slip' lol.

I'm also pleased to report that just before bedtime he went and brought me his body protector and hat and asked to go riding again. Obviously not traumatised in the least :D
 
Good to know that he hasn't been put off by it, a proper little rider ready to get back on. They are so cute by the way!

Also very pleased to hear she is still called ghengis - I loved it when I saw the original thread.
 
LOL bless , daisy has just watched the trooping of the colour and pointed out that you should ' never ride on the roads without a coloured thing' LOL

Pointed out they did not have to, but she would not have a bean of it :D

Your little one will be fine, falls and all( don't tell daisy, but I still cry if she comes off :o ) luckily only done touching the ground 3 times to date :)
 
Jacob's current favouritist film in the whole world is the Black Stallion but I must say he is very disapproving of the lack of health and safety in it. Constantly says "No hat?! No saddle?! Naughty Alec". It's amazing what they pick up lol
 
Ah bless my daughter fell off to a full body shake her first time too, she was 4 had just done her first canter off the lead was stood in the middle of the arena grinning while a few of us were clapping pony shook and she slid off she found it quite amusing too!!! She's 8 now and has many more not so gracefully falls!
