I've had him since he was 2 months old after been sadly taken from his mother along with 6 others. It was horrible to see. ILPH blue cross ect all involved and 3 sadly died. He was very poor when i got him and very frightened he has taken alot of time and TLC but now he is adorable.

I play with him in the field and show him soo many things, he just takes it all in his stride.
BUT i can't get him to go any faster than a slow and i mean slow walk in hand. Get my daughter to trot her pony in front of him or trot past him and he still walks. Any ideas plz...... He reminds me of a little old man without a care in the world

Libbyn...totally agree with you. I'm glad he's well behaved
As for carrot on stick...I have tried by holding carrot or mint but he just walks abit faster with his neck streched out

I wouldnt worry too much at this age...unless your wanting to show him etc.

He's only yearling, I'm sure with age, experience, will come strength and more enthusiam, he'll get the gist of it by the time you really need to do lots of walking about in hand.

My boy was like that when I got him as a 2 yr old, he'd not really been handled much, didnt really know how to lead etc so it was to be expected, but he learnt and yes ...he was still laid back, didnt spook or drag me around anywhere...hey dont knock it, at least you can work on getting them to walk promptly at your shoulder...lunge whip/long schooling whip in left hand, sharp quick flick on back legs and a loud walk on soon gets them moving BUT obviously ground work, using your voice properly, asking a command, reward etc at this age, I would not advice using a lunge whip or indeed lunging him at this age, he's a still a baby, I bet in a 4 months time he'll be different without you even having to do anything.
