Thanks everyone for the advice and suggestions!!

When I went up I brought him out of his stable and he's sound, his wound is scabby now?!! Not so sore to touch and the swelling has gone right down, but it was sticky. My friend came up and she reckoned that hes been stung or a thorns got in under his vest. I rang the vets and had a chat with them but haven't come out as he's having his teeth done tomorrow anyway by the vet. He said give him some more bute tonight and another 1 tomorrow night if he's still the same. What a relief!! I bathed it with warm salty water this morning and will do so again before he goes back to bed, vet suggested leaving him out in the paddock without a rug during day and stable over night, I put some rosemary and sulpher on it, as some of the scabs came off when they were bathed. Thanks guys for all your help, I was literally about to make a post about it when I saw this one!!
Heres a little video of Bear he'd just had a body shake when I started filming! Oh I went up there at lunchtime and he had found the tiniest patch of mud and had a good roll in it so he must be feeling a bit better!!!

heres some piccies, you can see a few little 'holes' where some scabs have come off

Oh yes it really does look like a form or urticaria/allergy. How peculiar.

Sounds like he will be just fine; great news.

I'm afraid, having seen so many injuries over the years, most much worse than your guys, I tend to react in a much calmer manner than lots of people on here. I can understand why people were erring on the side of caution however and gently advising you to seek vet attention.

Hope little Bear heals up fine.

Dark places tend to calm people. And where you seem to be sometimes, it really must be dark.

Hmm thought it was dark that calmed birds - I've not known too many people being calm in dark places LOL!!

When I went up at tea time it was even better! The swelling is nearly non existent but really scabby, its an awkward place so I cant poultice it, its weeping so thats a good sign that infections coming out. I might be able to ride by the end of the week after all!!! And he's sound as a pound now!
