Hi guys,

My 9 month old pup is 4.5 weeks into a 6 week period of bandaging with a splint for a broken outside toe on read right foot.

I changed the bandage as advised on the 27th, the bandage has been lasting a week. She had a slight sore patch of red hairlessness on her heel, so I bandaged with particular caution to that. Unfortunately, when I changed the bandage again tonight, she has a sore on the front of her leg- inside angle of her hock basically. It's sticky and slightly open, but neither oozing, weeping or bleeding, nor gunky or vile smelling so fairly sure not infected.

Question is, with 10 days left to go of the splint, what do I do now- I've left a message with the vet, and will speak again tomorrow and see if we need to go in, and for now I have re splinted, but cut a hole out of the thick bandages over the sore so there is no pressure, then bandaged over the top so it is covered but has a half inch gap so nothing touching it, with KBandz stuff. I reckon it's now breathable but clean and she can't lick/chew. I've also stuck a little nib of intrasite gel on it.

Does this sound okay for over night, that's if you can make head nor tail of my description!!? Not sure what else we can do- too soon to leave unsplinted- might not yet be healed ( but on a strong healthy puppy, it can't be far off surely?) and I don't want to risk more rubbing by having anything touch the wound.

Thanks! I'm afraid january diet has commenced, but there's hot Ribena going.

These are really common with this type of bandage but important to get vet to check as can become more serious very quickly, they may "modify" the splint or bandaging material.
