Well it's been a week since The vet has been and I'm glad to say Kia is pretty much back to normal except for a small pea sized lump on his lip which we think to be the original bite/sting site. :)

His appetite has increased again and he is eating and chewing normally :) so today I decided to try him out a hack bitless in a cross pull type to see how he is and to let his feet see Tarmac :)

Well he stuck his head rather happily into the bridle and was impatient with me putting his saddle on :D I was getting bumped constantly to hurry up by his nose :D

So we set off down the road towards the SJ stud and he was stomping along ears pricked back to my happy bouncy boy :) Very relieved mum :D

I also got home to a nice package............ ;) :p

Wonder what it could be ;) ;)

I spent the day today spring cleaning around the stable, sorting out my Stable, Tack and Feed areas and sorting out all my rugs and storage :) then I gave the old man a groom ( well to the knees as the fields aren't exactly mud free and he's out 24/7 now ;) ) then fitted his new bridle :D

I think he looks handsome in it ;)

He's in decent condition if a little on the light side for me and lacking muscle but hopefully we can get back on track with that :D

It was very windy here today so I decided to test out the bridle tomorrow once the weather has calmed down, I'm brave and I trust him but he had been out all night in the wind without a rug and fairly galloped towards me this morning shouting when he saw me so I didn't want to test his mood with a new bridle on :p ;)

oh dear, I see no one has responded yet, so will pop on to say hi and I'm glad the bitless hack went well, have you ridden bitless before?

congratulation on the new bridle too :)

We tried it years ago and it didn't go down too well :( we seem to be OK as long as I don't ask for canter or have him on grass in an open area ;)

Thanks for replying :)

Great photos, I'm glad the swelling has gone down now.

How did you find the fit of the Micklem? I'm contemplating trying one, but my mare has a tricky head shape to fit on a standard fit bridle, so undecided as to whether the Micklem will fit her correctly..!

Being honest great :) I had my doubts as I have to mix and match bridles for him as a cob is too neat round his head and a full is too long for his head, I got the standard horse and it's on the middle holes so perfect :)

Aww he looks nice and happy in it, after all it's the comfort that matters and why Micklem invented it.

Didn't know you had gone through a wrrying time with some swelling.. what happened?

He came in with a very sore swollen face, finding it hard to eat and very uncomfortable, vet came out and had a very good look, he was sedated as not very happy to let them look as expected, vet thinks it was a sting from a very large insect ie hornet or queen wasp.

He was given painkillers and steroids and antihistamines and its come down a treat.

I do worry as he is 25 now and I love that he is happy, healthy and still very bouncy to ride :) also he has no insurance cover now other than BHS gold. So it was very worrying seeing him like that, I'm glad it was something relatively easy to fix, even though it made a decent dent in my pocket

He looks great - especially for 25. Glad he's better - sounded nasty.

Love the new bridle - just had to tack up my recently backed mare (I'm now poor)!
