Hi Guys,
I have a 15yo thoroughbred who apart from recovering from a slipped pelvis is healthy and happy. She is eating well and her poo is normal.
She's never liked her girth being done up and due to slight weight gain in the past couple of months I have experimented with a couple of different girth. She now has an elastic one which she still hates being done up! Her saddle fits fine too. Her pelvis is now level and she is in no pain there now.its been a couple of months since that was fixed.
Sorry to ramble! I'll get to the point.......recently she has become a nightmare to mount. I use a mounting block but whenever my foot goes near the stirrup she throws her head up, flattens her ears and goes backwards! Once I am finally mounted her ears prick up and she's fine! She doesn't even flinch when I tighten her girth when I'm on her! Just on the ground. A few weeks ago after half an hour of trying to mount I ran my hands over her and when I touched her right flank she seemed to be sore there. The left flank is fine. I gave her a few days off assuming it was a bruise and she got slightly better. However, she is still sensitive there and mounting is getting harder and harder although she's fine once I'm on!
I can brush over there area as long as I don't apply too much pressure and her skin is fine. I even tried mounting from the other side with no success. Could her dislike of the girth be related to the soreness in the flank? Why is it just on mounting when she seems in pain as she is the kind of horse that will refuse to move if sore or will just buck but there's none of that? And what could the soreness in the flank be?
I have the chiropractor coming out again on Aug 1st to check everything is still ok before I start doing more with her? Oh and she has no soreness or sensitivity on or around her belly
Any advice would be great! Thanks for reading!
