After x raying it turns out pony had infection underneath frog which was not visible until vet cut some of his frog away. Four days later still pulse and different vet has sadly poked & prodded and cut more away from his frog to the point of making it pink/red then say yes it has no infection.

Sadly pony is now very sore and vet was only meant to leave me something stronger if it still was showing infection.

Farrier has been on holiday and hopefully can put shoe back on tomorrow but desperately need him sound again .

Any suggestions?

I would keep it clean and covered. I would keep it dry poulticed I would use my trusted shires poultice boot or equwelli with a nappy over the bottom of his hoof for protection.

Just be a bit patient as it will be like you with a sore quick of your finger or bad bruising; it takes time for it to heal so don't expect the shoe on to be the end of it; wait until he is at least totally field sound before asking anything of him.

Thank you for your reply - not the news we want to hear as meant to be competing at Hickstead in 13 days.

Lol, they always know when to be 'troublesome'. Just be aware that short cuts now (bute or other medication) are likely to lead to more problems along the line, it needs to heal from within to be a sure heal (excuse the pun!) and good luck, hope you make it.
