My mare has got sores on the side of her face and on her chin from wearing her muzzle, Ithink its also putting pressure on her poll as she seems suddenly sensitive there, and is reluctant to have it put on. How do other owners stop their horses getting sores and rubs from their muzzles? I tried the greenguard ones and she got that off,she is wearing a bucket type one now which stays on.

Soak in hot water in a bucket to soften it all over, put through your washing machine several times, that helps soften the rubber. Also get a girth sleeve, sheepskin lookalike type, fit it over the side cheek pieces and over the poll and down the other side. That will help and make sure it isnt too tight. May sound silly but I cut the hole slightly bigger which yes I know kind of defeats the object, but if did help with the rubbing of the chin soreness. Was less stressful for my horse too. Sudocrem will help with the sore spots.
