Hi

I posted yesterday regarding my pony being in discomfort, for those who didnt see the thread basically bought her in June and she had 6 weeks off in July/August due to bad back. Had all the right physio and now she seems to be getting sore again whilst being ridden and very touchy with girth being done up (Not like her at all).

I thought perhaps it could be her back but did some checks that I read and checked for subfluxed ribs and no signs of discomfort but when I started feeling her girth area and just above she got agitated as if she was in pain, the physios coming out next friday just to eliminate its not her back, shoulder, neck or whatever but just want to get to the bottom of it.

Any ideas what it could be? (Saddle and teeth have been professionally checked several times)

Ask your Physio to thoroughly check your horse's spine for any pain, we had a mare who had kissing spines, It was the Physio who picked it up and it was confirmed by the Vets by Xray.

Def get horse checked for ulcers.
But if that's ok its possible horse is uncomfortable with the girth u r using as problem seems to b that area
I've had a lot of problems with saddle fitting for my horse. Finally all sorted but just wasn't happy being girthed.
Process of elimination led me to working out girth was to wide behind elbow & horse didn't like elbow hitting girth when moving. Trial & error with lots of girths & now horse no problem once again.
& just to add the girth that was the problem had been used on horse for past 2.5yrs with no problems.

What girth are you using? Is it possible you are over tightening it? It's easy to do with the elasticated kind - my youngster was really reluctant to move forwards the other week, head tossing and really unhappy. I let the girth down a hole and she was back to her usual self.
