I keep seeing people on facebook, who complain about being placed last at shows. Surely someone has to be placed last? Some of them get so cross and I just don't understand it!

I also see them saying that they've lost because they don't have a famous 2nd name and their horses isn't related to a famous horse :S

Just accept it and try better next time!

Unfortunately sometimes in showing it is a case of the person rather than the pony, which is sad but if you can't accept it stick to showjumping at least then the winners win fairly. :)

I really love when folk say "if I hadn't have had a pole down/cantered on the wrong lead/ gone the wrong way, I'd have won" er yeah, and so would everyone else duh!

Exactly the same in dog showing. But sore losers are every where, no matter what you do unfortunately

Some people go to shows with the intention of winning or being placed, whereas some just go for the experience or for fun!
Leave them to it I say! After all, they're the one's being miserable :D

I went to a show yesterday. My horse won his in-hand class and bloomin rightly so! He is stunning! He then did the ridden and was pulled 2nd - Pft! He was streets better than the rest! And then!!! AND THEN!!!!!!! The judge had the sheer bloomin CHEEK to drop me to 4th!!! I mean! Come On! 2nd to 4th when he should've have won doing handstands?!? Not amused!!! Ok he did bounce about and fly leap into canter then proceed sideways with the judge on board and yes he wouldn't stand still unt he line up but hey! He still should have won regardless because of who he is! So ner!

;)

Maybe I just don't notice it :P I do only really attend local shows!
At all the shows I've been to, the best horse has been placed 1st!

Poor loosers make me cross too. They seem to forget that they are going to get one personns opinion on the day. You might win one week and come no-where the week after, that is how it is. If you go with the expectation of winning you run the risk of being dissapointed. If you go to enjoy yourself and are pleased with how your horse goes, then you have had your own win :)

No, shut up!
I was there too (in my imagination) and I was pulled last for having no horse
But I should have being first because the way I went round that ring was perfect, I was dressed perfect and I was overall perfect. Can't believe I didn't win. WHAT A FIX

Yes! Even though I didn't place very well in any of my in-hand or ridden showing classes, I felt like I'd won each one because of how well Ned behaved!
But then, I did win a jumping class ;) *smug*

I know! I saw you! Kind of! I couldn't believe you were down at the bottom! You should have been at least 3rd behind my beautiful wonderful horse! No point in awarding a 2nd as everything else pales in comparison! Not amused I am not!

*spits tea out* :D
Ahem - No, I should have being first, you should have being 3rd. I mean you were good, really good BUT I was perfect and you can't beat perfection :p
Come on, I was so good I didn't even need a hoss :D

Tish tosh! You should have been placed last! I was there too, on a purebred pintoloosa with 3 legs. Because of all the hard work I've put in, I should have won!

(That's another moan! People who think just because they've worked hard before hand, they should win! Sorry, it's about who's the best on the day!)

My first show I came last - kenny wouldn't trot up in hand after the ridden part. And quite rightly so we came last - all the others did trot up. I took it with grace as other than that and striking off on the wrong lead in canter he was good as gold, and it was a huge show too! Judge was lovely to me and took the time to give me tips, pointers etc. almost preferred this outcome! Really set me on my feet!

I'm a sore loser :o

That's only because I make it out to a show about once a year, so when I go I want to achieve the most!
I do understand though that my guy isn't 'show standard' so I will never hit the reds in that area, but I still get jealous of those who do :o

So sue me! :D

Yes! Ned barely cantered in my ridden class and quite rightly I was placed low and like you, the judge was lovely and gave me pointers :) (even though she looked like a scary headmistress!)

No, I'm sorry, Hang on..
I'M FIRST BECAUSE I'M PERFECT AND I DIDN'T EVEN NEED A HORSE

Ah, but there's a difference between being disappointed and being a douche :P one person was calling the judges all sorts of colourful things and all her friends were joining in! And her horse didn't look that well groomed either (I saw a photo from the day of the show!)

An excellent point!

I was talking to bens breeders the other day, they were saying its just awful showing wise... they took their mare and foal out locally, came second then won supreme. they are doing a couple more shows and they said, but we know the judge and as a result we know who would win. to them its not about winning (obviously they want to) but about being fairly placed. Becoming so well known and respected has its downsides... they dont enjoy it nearly as much as they used to and are even reluctant to go out now.

SJ... now that hard to fix or complain about:p

Thanks for the giggle on my way to bed :D (to be clear I was giggling at the non-existent, three-legged, donkey-shaped horses winning ROR showing contests, not yawning donkeys - fortunately I know what that term is slang for because I can't imagine goodGgling it would make for a good night's sleep...)

Sometimes, it does feel like names matter in the showing circuit. It can be a very closed shop thing... Al shows very vaguely, and in her first county show on Reg she was intimidated by the pros. Bear in mid she was 18 at this point, the youngest in there by a country mile, and very clearly not a pro! After placing well, we heard her being slagged off and then later some fairly nasty rumours abounded.

Someone has to place last. Doesn't mean the person who did was the right one!

I am normally a very good loser, I used to get used to it with my youngsters as was only in it for experience.

However, one show I went to, ex was on board my 17.2 coloured in Best turned out. Judge was on crutches, horse was immaculate if I do say so myself ;)

Judge didnt even go near the horse, was quite clearly scared of him, didnt tough him or even speak to my ex, but did with all the others in the class (none over about 15hh).

So, I was fuming, didnt have a go at the judge but asked her why, and she couldnt really explain, so I went to judges and complained. But Im normally very good, promise ;)
