Apart from not putting a bit in, obviously, has anyone any tips on what to put on a sore mouth to help it heal?

Currently putting vasaline on but are there any other suggestions?

anusol!not the best thing to go in chemist and ask for but it works!

I didnt find that Vaseline helped that much when the Princess cut her mouth. I tried Anusol and it worked to a certain extent. Someone recommended to me Gold Label "Glymol" which has clove oil in it and it worked a treat but nothing beats a good rest for it to heal properly. Good luck

make a headpiece up with a really thin snaffle (ie snaffle part of a double set) wrap corners with gauze bandage and soak in a bitter alum solution, and put on twice a day for 10 mins, obviously redunk in bitter alum solution. toughens up the skin. you can buy bitter alum crystals from chemist. usually used for bedsores and the like that dont heal well.

Good Grief not vaseline it softens everything and if its caused by fighting the bit leaning etc it will get worse.

The bit wrapped in fabric soaked it alum solution is good or You can stitch Chamois leather round it.

Saline solution helps as does Lavender Oil. I swear by lavender oil as my old horse used to lean on one rein and his mouth split when you felt you had done nothing. The Lavender Oil is Anaesthetic and Antiseptic and will toughen the skin.
