I have a super sensitive warmblood whos got a sore mouth. rode him xc and it pinched causing a little cut inside his lip where the bit sits.
thought it had healed but put a bit in a again and he was sore again. he was also playing up and i think it was due to that.

any ideas on a good bit for a soft mouth? Hes quite strong, not overly but a plain rubber one wouldn't cut it.

He's going to be lunged with the cavason only until it heals but hes generally sensitive so i don't want this in the future.. i don't exactly hang off his mouth either and hes very very light in my hand.

Hi, not sure I have any ideas on the bit front, but hemorrhoid cream can be used to help "harden" the skin in the corners of the mouth to prevent further rubbing!! You'd have to explain that to the chemist as you were buying it....:D

My warmblood mare had a similar issue after XC or "stronger days" she would be sore where her bit sat. She was in a cottage craft french link snaffle. I didnt want anything stronger so i put her in the Verbindend and havent had an issue since. I left her for a while to let any sores heal and for the first few weeks back with a bit in i used vaseline on her mouth so it wouldnt rub or pinch.

Thanks for the information.

I've bought all sorts of weird things from the chemist - all in the name of horses! I once bumped into my mums friend as I was buying some nappies (to use as a poultice) that got the old tongues wagging!!

I'll check the bit out now - thank you!
