My mare today had some equine massage and body work and the lady pointed out that she was very very sore just above her hip bones and slightly to the left of them (online it says this is the superficial medial gluteal muscle) all she had to do was tickle with two fingers and my mare sort of hollowed her back and flattened her rump if that makes sense? She reacted on both sides but her near side was much worse. Shes been off work for a while as shes lame behind and we now wonder if this has something to do with it and what it might be causing it. Does this sound neurological or more like an injury? She has muscle wastage around her hq from her time off work too. I have had the vet out numerous times and he just says to rest her for now to see if theres any improvement but wondered if anybody might have found soreness in the same place. The body worker said that she had only ever seen a similar reaction in race horses but they had tight backs whereas my mare does not. This is most probably due to having my mare so long off work but could be something different entirely. Any help or ideas would be appreciated! Thankyou.
