Hi I need some help. My 16.2 sports horse has a lovely pink nose and it has been sunburnt. I put sun cream on everyday but to no avail. It is now very sore and the skin has split. I have tried nearly every cream and ointment but nothing is helping. The biggest problem is that I smear cream all over his nose then he goes to the water trough and it all washes off. I have tried udder cream, sudocrem, savlon, germoline, iodine and antibacterial salve. Please any advice would be fantastic.

I am going to put the nose guard on but I need to fix the sore nose too. I used waterproof sun cream but was going to try the 24 hour cream. What would you do?

Providing you use the mask and keep the sun off, the nose will heal itself even if you don't put cream on it.

I used horse sunscreen, solid stuff that softens in warm hand, stays on really well small pot with gold label, lasted ages and horse didn't mind it as it seemed soothing. I also use full nose fly mask which works well

Do check if have buttercup in field though as this can make some horses photosensitive

Full face UV protective Mask + sudocrem or filtabac (this is excellent stuff- easier to spread than sudocrem but looks like a white old lady make-up when on and is not easy to rub / wash off). I have never found a sun cream that works as well as the sudocrem or filtabac as these are both sun blocks ie they block UV). Our pink skinned mare is out 24/7 in mask and rug and filtabac cream once daily.
