About 10 days ago I fetched my mare in from the field and she had blood all down her front leg. I looked closely and couldn't see anything specific so I took her to the hose to was her leg. As she put her head down to play with the water I noticed a huge sore patch on her chin. I cleaned it up and put some sudocream on. I thought she might had kicked herself while she was pawing the ground for her food.
However this sore doesn't seem to want to heal and today I noticed that it seems to be spreading round the bottom of her muzzle. I also noticed 2 small patches on each nostril.
The sore on her chin isn't as angry now as it was in the photo ( sorry not a good piccy as she wouldn't keep her head still) but it it is going crusty. It is a very difficult place to keep cream on as she rubs it off.
Has anybody else had this sort of problem?
This photo was taken today after she'd had a grooming session with my other horse. You can just about see the ' crust ' on the bottom of her chin. ( plus a white moustach from kissing her hairy boyfriend!!!)
