blessed pony who has only been out at night has managed to rub a patch off the side of his tail, and a bit alongside it, which is really raw and sore.
So upset as we thought we'd covered him in every preparation known to man, and as his mane is intact, thought we were doing OK.
Have put protocon on the raw bit this morning, he's very sore and not in a good mood about it!
Can anyone recommend anything mega to clear this up?
Flysheet for him tonight - even though we've been waiting til it is quite literally dark to turn him out!

I'm a big fan of Camrosa. It's quite expensive for a tub of ointment but it lasts and a little goesw a long way.

Seems to sooth and heal sore patches quite quickly.

My duaghter's pony doesn't have sweet itch but he does get itchy (if you see what I mean!). Anyway, he lives in at night and goes out in the day in a full fly rug and hood which seems to keep most of the bites at bay.

boett's seem to be the way to go but they are so expensive!

I know, and I can't imagine them being that comfortable in the heat. Will give camrosa a go, if I can get hold of some today.

Boetts are very thin and loose and are absolutley fine in the heat...mine wears one with a normal fly rug over and sweats no mare than if he had nothing on.

For healing...I'd say good ol sudocreme

Have ordered camrosa and will use sudocreme til it gets here.
The thing is he had sweetitch years ago, but it went when we moved here, I still don't think this is actually sweet itch I just think he's been bitten and scratched it.
Always something, isn't there? Just waiting for DH to say 'what do they do in the wild, then?'
'Die, dear, quite frequently! Or hobble around lame and gangrenous. Not exactly the look we're after ....''
It's having sheep that does it.

'What do they do in the wild?' 'Die'
'What do they do in captivity?' 'Die, if at all possible ...'
