i have a norfolk terrorist i have had her 7 years she isnt very nice she is grumpy greedy and bites (i love her her to bits)anyway she stays at my freinds 2 times aweek as i work shifts she comes to work with me on my night shifts but not when i work days as she cant be trusted and more people in and out of office,i picked her uip today and my freind said she has been licking her paw but she couldnt get near it so i had a look and one of the pads looks as though its got a thorn or something in it i have bathed it and managed to break the skin to squeeze some muck out but should i leave it open with some antceptic cream on or bandage it hoping to draw the muck out i will take her to vets monday but my vet doesnt like her as she is so hard to handle she was a rescue dog found as a stray but i got her at 1 years old

I wouldn't leave it until Monday myself. Your veterinary practice will have emergency cover and you can get professional advice and/or something done about i before then.

If you can't get to a vet then I would suggest poulticing the paw with warm salted water. One of the best poulticing substitutes is a Pampers nappie. They hold a huge amount of water. Your dog probably won't mind this too much. You can cut the nappy up into manageable portions, wrap it round her leg, and if necesssary put a bit of dustbin liner around it secured with duct tape. She sounds to be a Madam so she may well decide to remove this - in which case, just poultice manually for 5 minutes 2 or 3 times tomorrow. Try to keep her paw clean.
