Little dog has a sore paw, skin swollen round the nail. He's had it for about 10 days and I thought he had just caught it on a stone or something. Anyway it hadn't healed so took to vets two days ago as thought it might be a grass seed or something. She looked at it
didn't think it was, I did mention someone had said it could be cancerous but she didn't think so. HAs given me Malaseb to wash it with
He licks it but it doesn't appear particular painful and hes not limping its just very swollen and red. But of course Ive googled and seen a pic that looks a bit like what he has got that IS cancerous. Realy don't need another drama on top of losing one dog and potentially losing horse ! Tell me Im being daft.

Borrowed a doggie boot to stop him licking it, but it wont stay on even though its from a dog with similar size feet He flicks it off and Im playing hunt the boot ! Good advice JillA !

if he's alright with sudocreme (i.e. after patch testing) then apply it just before you walk him-its absorbed very quickly and will help stop the itchiness. and listen to your vet :)

Honestly I am THE most paranoid owner ever, and it wouldn’t have occurred to me that something like that could be cancerous - get him to leave it alone, it will settle down :) I would still wonder if it was a tiny little foreign body in there, but see what happens when he stops licking the paw constantly - that will make a massive difference

For a good selection of boots check out inner wolf. I highly recommend the shirts outback boot it stays on v well is waterproof and has a nice soft lining.

Ditto, my dog had something similar and my worst case scenario was infection!

It's probably just a nail bed infection!
Try the malaseb for a week, stop him licking it as that will just make it more inflammed and slow down healing and if that doesn't work anti-inflams and antibiotics are usually the next step in most cases.
Common things are common- when you hear hoofbeats...think horses not zebras!
Cancer would be very unusual with that sort of presentation so I wouldn't jump to worrying about zebras just yet :)
Avoid google! it always says awful awful things!

I have managed to get him to keep a boot on for at least half an hour, but why pray, does the fact that he has a boot on his front paw mean that he cant lift his back legs up over a step :D May have to go back to vet as still looks the same despite malaseb.
