Sore, scabby pink nose..what is best to put on it?

Just got back from a week away and have come back to find yearling has a scabby nose that looks really sore. He is piebald with a pink nose but hasn't suffered from sunburn this summer at all. I watched him walking straight into a tall patch of nettles today so wonder whether it could be a reaction to them...he didn't seemed bother though and eat lots of them ! I have put sudacream on it today. Can anyone suggest anything that maybe better for nettle rash or sunburn...thanks !
 
Thanks for those replies.... I will get suncream for tomorrow and a UV nose net thingy that I've seen mentioned in an older post so he has full coverage all day. I feel so bad that it wasn't spotted earlier but person looking after him for me only "viewed" him in the field and didn't actually go and see him up close all week !! Ahh!! I will never leave him again !!
 
When my appy broodmare got a very burnt nose late last summer I applied a mixture of high factor 'Kiddies' sunblock and aloe vera gel (available from Holland & Barrett). It mixes really well and goes further with the aloe vera in it. I would think that the Sudocreme is really soothing as it has lavender in it. And it seems to stay on really well. I felt that it was something in the field that had made her 'photosensitive' hence the burning. Her two appy children (colt at foot and yearling filly) were out with her and were not affected.
 
I agree, Sudocrem works wonders for a burnt nose/legs. My horse has a large pink nose and pink skin under his socks. I also use factor 50 sunblock.
 
We've had lots of horses badly burnt this year, although they were fine through the really hot weather. The burns appeared very suddenly and were severe enough to require vet treatment. The culprit turned out to be wild parsnip which causes extreme photosensitivity. Apparently the seeds can lie dormant for years and then it flowers when conditions are right, as they must have been this year. We've been in this field for many years and never had a problem before.
Anyway, just thought you might want to check for it in your fields just in case, it is truly horrible stuff, even my mum still has scars on her arms a couple of months after she accidently touched it. http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/invasives/terrestrialplants/herbaceous/wildparsnip.html
 
i would recommend boots soltan 50+ its thick enough to stay where you put it and my sensitive horse doesn't react to it or burn when using it . . . and its but one get one free at the mo.

isn't sudocrem oil based (??) wouldn't it encourage sunburn (be sure to remove all traces before turnout) ??
 
i think you will find it is photosensitivity due to overloading the liver and becoming susceptable to sunlight! i would do a liver detox and make sure he doesnt have access to bushes/hedges and plants other than grass. aloe verea will soothe but liver detox will reduce the scabs!
 
You are all so helpful... thanks !! He has been covered with factor 50 and today the whole area looks loads better and scabs are softened and he has rubbed some off so now he should be ok with his nose cover during the day. He likes dipping it in the water trough and then flicking it about !!! It sends the other yearlings into a panic and i swear he is laughing at them !! Its so lovely to watch him play and see his personality emerging. I could sit and watch him all day !!
 
Hi there, i have a grey horse with a total pink nose, he got same porblem last year, in all honesty the BEST thing for him was Udder cream for cowes! big tub of it! its slightly oragney in colour but my gosh it sure worked! it usually stays on for a couple of days also! and its makes there skin so lovely and soft and makes healing extra quick!
Cant go wrong!
