Sores under tongue - help please!?

Been struggling all season with a horse getting sores under his tongue - quite high up, one on each side and can only really find them if he has a dentist gag in. He is obviously getting his tongue over the bit, I think made worse by the fact he has been doing it with a pelham even though I can't feel it at the time. Two questions...

1. does anyone have any tips on how to get these to heal quicker? apparently salt actually makes them blister rather than heal quicker which would have been my first port of call

2. does anyone have any bitting suggestions. My dentist who is very good is adamant that a double jointed bit or curved bit will put more pressure on the areas that are being rubbed so the obvious choices of bits sold as tongue relief bits seem to be out.

Does anyone have experience of this? I will ride him in a hackamore for the time being but he is hopefully entered up for a few more events and would like to run him if possible and find something that he is comfortable in

Try a Baucher for your dressage and show jump, in the hackamore.

I take it the dentist has dealt with any sharp teeth.

For your pelham - try one that has a Cambridge mouth and lift a little higher than normal. Place the curb chain through the rings of the bit as this keeps the chain down in the chin groove. When the chain is behind the bit it can pinch the lips between the chain and mouthpiece and the chain tends to ride up onto the sensitive jaw bones.
