Sorry I know there have been a number of insurance questions, but was wondering if there is anyone that can help with mine. I purchased a new horse about 4weeks ago, who I still need to sort insurance for. The problem I have is I work full time (only get 30mins lunch and they do not like use of mobiles in the office) and by the time I get home after doing the horses, the insurance companies have all gone home, not ideal. I have had a number of quotes online and so far KBIS is the cheapest (£500), but offers more cover than the others. The only problem is I cannot find online if KBIS pay out 100% for things like MRI/Bone Scans etc as some that I have looked at only cover 50-75% of these costs. My other horse is through Petplan, who I know cover this 100%, but due to a couple of small issues I have had with them and the fact the quote for the new one for same level of cover came it at £700 I do not really want to go with them. Does anyone have KBIS cover that would be able to answer my question or have any opinions about them good or bad. Thanks

Can you not nip out of the office to use your phone? It shouldn't take long to as a quick question.

Other than that do KBIS have their policy wording or key facts sheet on the website? You maybe could email them and ask them the question.

i would though ensure you have some sort of insurance (even if just liability) asap. You could also try Towergate Lloyd and whyte as you should be able to ask them about the insurance they offer (through Towergate AIUA) or contact insuremyhorse - they too offer an equine policy through Towergate AIUA. I know they will pay full MRI costs as I used to work for them as an equine underwriter. Not sure now how their premiums will compare though.

hi

NFU cover full cost of bone scan and 50% of MRI- stated very clearly. if you pop into there local office you can have it all done in 15mins. i have recently had a very (very!) large claim with them and i'll admit they were slow in paying out and there was a few threads on here about it BUT they paid out in full, 100% and i even got some money back as they covered 50% of his box rest and travelling costs. they even covered his chiro and physio as well. when i had my renewal through it only increased by £5per month which i dont think is too bad given the size of my claim!

I thought it depended on which vets fees scale you choose. I got a quote from them last night and chose scale E which says they pay 100% vets fees (Accident, sickness and disease) after excess, but some scales said the excess was x amount + 25% of vets fee

Thanks everyone, I really need to get it sorted soon so will try and pop out of the office to make a call. I did contact NFU and I was told someone would return my call, but never did. I will try and call them again. I will also try Towergate Lloyd and Whyte :)

If you send KBIS and e-mail with your question they will answer you very quickly, when I got a quote from them I e-mailed for more info about something in partiuclar, and they replied within 24 hours.
