A while back, I posted about my 4 yo NF mare who had started raring out of the blue and throwing creative yet volatile 'tantrums' under saddle......well, I persevered down the Veterinary route and had her referred as there had always been an odd gait behind (but was sound) and she had become funny to takc up/didn't enjoy going over little poles in school/canter was disunited beyond belief etc,
So, she went to one Vet school, who despite seeing issue in her ind legs and spine, said it was "all insgnificant" and to euthanise as she ws "dangerous"....
I ignored, made my feelings clear, took home, second opinion and voila - spavins behind and kissng spine :( Bless her she's 4 & 1/2 years old
Anyhow, they are really positive that she is a good candidate for surgery and are enthusiastic about her response (I appreicate there are no guarantees), but I am still really nervous about the whole affair and know this is just the start of a very long road ahead....

Her Op has been postponed from yesterday until 26th Nov, so really got myself worked up ready and then "pleugh", no Op.

Have to work myself up again over the weekend :( She's staying there for a few days so they can monitor her wound, and I know she is in the best hands (now that she is away from t'other guys!!), but it doesn't stop you worrying!
Rather a pointless post really but those of you who's neds have had the surgery, how were they when they got home and any helpful pointers to help us along??? I'm in the process of sourcing a haybar for her as we speak ;)

OMG poor you I am in a simular situation with my horse who is 8!! We are having surgery on teh 26th of Nov toooo.......which vets are you going to? Fingers crossed for you maybe we should have a joint thread next week fingers and toes crossed
xx

mine also has KS - found out in feb - we have tried steroid injections twice and helped but not enough so mine is set to have her op at cotts on the 27th nov - she has 8 impinging spinous processes, but is having the op where they snip the ligament rather than take bone away.

Good luck, am sure she will be in good hands and try not to worry - least you are doing right thing for her

Don't be sorry I am 4.5 weeks post op and Chestnutmarelover on here was operated about a week ago and she is in Somerset.
My boy is currently lungeing and looks fantastic. I have a blog about Charlie see below

That's excellent news about your boy - I will definitely check out your blog tomorrow (crap internet at home!!)

That's spooky both going in on the 26th!!!! I have changed to Western Counties Equine Hospital in Culmstock who have been brilliant with her (she isn't an easy mare and she's bright orange!lol)
We def have to have a joint thread - it's great how this forum can work!! Keeping everything crossed for you too! xx

Sending vibes that it all turns out well. It really is a good prognosis if the KS is their only problem. It does tend to go hand in hand with spavins. My gelding has not been one of the lucky ones and had the op a year ago. He is well in himself, but sadly it did not cure his panic attacks under saddle or roller. My sister has also just received the bad news that her four year old has KS and hock problems and sore front feet. She does not know what she is going to do. I have offered to help with the rehab as I am used to it! Just hope her boy is luckier than mine. Good luck, and please keep us posted regarding your horse.

Poor neddie - 8 impinging? Inds has 3, 2 are particularly bad so having an Op with a bit of both. We had hoped for the ligament only, however on further chats with the surgeon, they want to remove part of the process too which is a set back but it is the best thing for her.
So, that's 3 of our neddies all going in within 24 hours of each other......lots of vino, chocolate and healing vibes all round then!

Really sorry to har that about your boy. It's one thing solving the physical issue but sorting out what goes on in their head is another matter. My girl has a lot of 'issues' going on up there, so I'm hoping she takes well to the Op and the rehab process is enough to make her realise it is all (hopefully) ok. She responded well to the nerve block and steroid injection she had, so we're keeping everything crossed.
She's always going to have the strange gait, despite the hocks being treated and bit worried as still resting the hinds a lot but Vet suspects (and I'm hoping) it's to do with her back being sore as she is trotting up sound but........
Thank you for the good luck - really hope it gets better for you and your sister x

If she responded well to the nerve block then she has a really good chance! My boy was no different when he was blocked, so it makes me think that maybe that wasn't the root of his problems. Also he had ten spines impinging, so much worse than your girl. I expect it will be a positive outcome for her. Fingers crossed!

Really sorry to hear this :( although hopefully explains her unexpected explosions.
I don't have any experience of KS but hope surgery goes well and she recovers well :)
At least it's winter so better time to miss riding and for box rest ;) Although offer of riding H still stands but hacking isn't great round here, esp with all the crappy houses being built :(
