I have 2 terriers, not quite sure what they are, but think that there is some Westie in there somewhere. They are closely related, possibly brither and sister, but they came from a farm at separate times where they were just outdor dogs.

The dog (neutered) is really pink around his tail, he is scratching and nibbling, the hair has broken off and is very sparse. This has happened over the last 3 days. He is Frontlined every 5 weeks and has been wormed with panacur, but not for tapeworm - this is on order. The pic isn't very good, but will hopefully give you an idea.

The bitch has just started doing the same thing. I will book an appointment with my vet, but it may take a couple of days, is there anything I can do to make them less itchy in the meantime? Should I bath them, and if so, what in?

Thanks! [image]

do you have any flea shampoo or something like that

is milk meant to help...dont know tbh...vaguely remember..

my jack russel had the same symptoms and it was anal glands, since the vet squirted it he stopped stratching in that area. So yours could be anal glands, or flea allgery.

Despite teaching animal care for a number of years, I have never emptied glands - I did all the science!! I am going to get them into the grooming parlour at work and let them do it, much easier

Hee hee. My poor husband is our resident anal gland squeezer. Stella's glands are not quite where they should be, so the vet said she'll often need them draining manually; on average, this has been every three months.

Not a fun job, though, that's for sure

IMO it sound's like a food allergy, Westies are known to have serious skin problems, generally casued by gluten. I'm not saying that everything else that's been said isn't the cause, but please consider what feed your dogs are on, what the ingredients are, and if they get any treats. I'm a nutritional advisor for pet food, if you want any advice please do PM me.
