Tried one of the saddles I have had down from Saddles Direct. The saddler fitter said it fitted good and he is very much a perfectionist so it must look ok.

So I bit the bullet and rode in the school with the wind howling and things blowing about. Really pleased with the walk nice and forward going soft great best she has been for ages!

Did a fair bit of walking and turning but when I asked her to trot she did not want to go forward my instructor said its her having a tantrum thinking she had done enough and testing me out but because of the new saddle I am thinking is it that! Aggggghhhhh It is heavier than my old saddle which was a Wintec Pro.

So my question is if the saddle is uncomfortable would she be playing up in walk too? but her walk was relaxed and nice or is she just getting me at it. My last saddle was not fitting her well so perhaps she has remembered but I need to make a decision on this one.

If you trust your saddle fitters opinion and your trust your riding instructors opinion and the saddle felt comfortable to you to ride in then theres not mush more you can do than that, if her last saddle was ill fitting then she may well need checking over by the physio, she may just need tweeking if shes feeling a little sore where the old saddle hasnt been the best fit.

Just had the very same thing happen to me, in the end decided to get her back checked & she was very sore. However this was prob due to a problem in her hock & she was compensating, (jury is out as x-rays clear) so not really sure if the new saddle/old saddle (was not great fit) was contributing to the problem...but really glad I went with my instincts. She is now having a holiday on vets advice. I think if you ask nicely saddles direct might give you a bit longer to decide, unless they have a queue of people waiting to try that particular saddle of course.....
Go with your instincts you know your horse best and although frustrating when trying to find a new saddle (been there got the t-shirt) it is better to be sure than make an expensive mistake that you regret.
