I am doing a showing show on Monday (yes I know I've already mentioned it 5000 times!

) and I am doing the riding club horse and ridden hunter classes, I have decided to go without the martingale (we only really need it hacking), but can I leave the breastplate bit on for both classes? I am a bit worried as I have to jump in the first class (eeek!) and I would like something to hold onto just in case

- I guess body protectors are frowned on in showing classes?

Thanks

I'm really not sure as to your actual question but if you weren't allowed it then would it be possible to get one of those small straps you attach to the D's on your saddle?

Just an idea but good luck for the show, braver than me at the moment!

hi i run our local rc and you will not be put down at a rc for a back protector you should wear it if you feel better and you are jumping good luck

Hi Trish, don't know about riding horse but for ridden hunter you are not supposed to use a breastplate. However I always use a breastplate so feel happier with one (in fact can't get on without one as his mane is so pathetic I grab hold of the breastplate when mounting and if none then eeep

) If you feel better with one then go with the breastplate and body protector. Not worth destroying your confidence for is it? Just look at how far you have come with George, by the end of the season you'll be doing working hunters for sure

This is a piccy of me and Pidge when we did working hunter but gives you an idea

Hi i do riding club pony and working hunter pony at local level too! I usually wear my breastplate for the working hunter. The first pic is storm jumping in the working hunter pony, i think i had his martingale on that day, and the second is storm in the riding club pony. Good luck for Monday

Wear your body protector! I wouldnt worry about it being wrong, Ive seen loads of people in showing classes (non-jumping) wearing theirs, and you will feel alot more confident with it on if you usually wear it whilst jumping! I would wear it under your show jacket if you can. Also, leave the breat plate on if you feel safer that way, next time you could go without maybe? Good Luck!!! We expect to hear how it all went and lots of photos!

Thanks all, I think I will leave the breastplate on then and body protector will go under my jacket (just!) - mind you if this snow carrys on we won't be going at all!

Do you need the breast plate if you're not jumping? If not, why not put it on for the RC horse, and take it off for the ridden hunter?

Ideally for flat classes you wouldn't have a martingale as it spoils the line of the shoulder, but there's no point in taking it off if you feel a nervous wreck without it!
