Sorry - equine dentist again!

I have two new horses that haven't been here long, hence I really don't know how they will behave with the dentist.

If I have a dentist out then if they misbehave and he/she can't manage to do them, then i'll have to pay for a vet to come out and make them all lovely and sleepy! as dentist can't do this can they?!

i was told when i bought my mare that she was always sedated for dentist. i told my regular dentist this and he said "let me come out first" he spent time with her getting her relaxed and within 20 minutes he was doing her teeth. i have had her 3 years now and she has the dentist every 6 months and we have not had any problems.

No it has to be done by the vet. The vet may offer to do the dentisary work him/ herself but I'd seriously not recommend this. Equine dentist cringe at the thorght of vets 'doing' teeth! Most horses don't like having it done but its only a small % that need sedation.

TO be fair not all vets are in capable of doing teeth, my vet has the same qualifications as any equine dentist alongside vetinary degree.
