Would you pay for a 13 year old that you took out of a field last year completely unfit having not done anything for years, who you had got fit had quite a bit of success with and are just about to affiliate BSJA. He's 16.2 and won £57 BSJA in 1999!

He's been on loan to me for a year and is just going up for sale, the oweners think he's worth between 6-8K!!

How many years has it been out of work exactly? Providing it passes a vetting I still wouldn't pay more than £1500. BSJA winnings from 1999 is far to long ago to be considered as a selling point.

£3500 if he's in good shape now and working nicely - can't understand why people are saying £1500. 13 is not old and if he is competing decently at even RC level, ready to affiliate again, I think 3-4k is a fair amount.

However if they sell him to you, he ought to be cheaper as you've done all the work on him!

They're dreaming if they think they'll get that much for him, but how the hell are people coming up with a figure of 1.5k?

I think 2.5 -3 k is fair, the lower end of that if you are buying considering that they know you, you know the horse and because you are the one who has brought him on so far.

The only reason I said £1500 is because I only paid £1200 for an 8 yr old TB from eventing stock. 13 is middle aged but this horse has not worked for 'years'. Maybe I was being a bit harsh but then I'm a tight northerner!

It had a few years off, but has been back and competing for a year now, and is about to affiliate, so I don't see how the time off matters that much at all.

Like I said - I'm tight! Ooop north I wouldn't pay that sort of money for a 13 yr old but that's not to say someone else wouldn't. The question on the OP was 'how much would you pay for....'. My answer remains the same.

Thanks very much everyone, the figure i had in mind was about £3K so i think that seems to be the average on here too!
