To be perfectly honest as a previously non horsey person i'd completely agree. The sport is very odd to watch. XC and SJ are very clear cut in terms of least points win or if the same points then quickest wins but with dressage it's not that simple.
Now as someone who has emraced the horse world with open arms i can sit down and watch in shear wonderment about how these riders manage such composure while performing tricks my step daughter can only dream of doing.
Okay so the article has a typical flair about it that i understand is a bit biased to the general uneducated public but is that not to be expected from a paper?
Please, not again. We've had 2 discussions on this in Latest News already and I've probably already got a few people's backs up over it.
All I will say this time is that I think its very funny and summons up how a lot of non-horsey (and some horsey) people view dressage. We shouldn't take it too seriously.
I think it has more to do with class prejudices than sport. He's entitled to his opinion but suggesting that it is not a valid sport is the first step on the road to facism, I think.

You're just trying to provoke me
I will not respond
I will not respond
I will not....
I doubt it - I wouldn't know what your beliefs and opinions are. Not to worry - I read the response from BD now in the latest news so I don't think it really needs my two-penneth other than to add that there are many sports like table tennis that are great fun to play but not to watch but I wouldn't in a billion years suggest dropping them from the games! I don't think that my opinions count for everyone, you see. It's not like the equine events took up too much precious airspace!

Just to qualify what I've said (well it gets me away from the tender document I should be writing for a bit longer!)
I'm only saying that I thought it was funny, not that I think dressage shouldn't be in the olympics or on tv. Of course it should be there and people should be able to watch it if they choose.
Don't think it's a class thing for him as he's an ex public school boy who went to Cambridge!! Just think he doesn't understand and he's trying to be funny!!!
