Ok.. lazy ponio works well in a new bit for a time then learns how to evade! He is a bit of a leaner too - or will turn his head sideways to avoid the contact. When he's in a good mood he does like quite a stong contact but I think that might be so that he can take advantage and lean! Have tried a loose ring french link, copper snaffle, hanging cheek french link and now jointed loose ring snaffle. The last bit was the most effective for a while but now he has learnt to stick his head up to avoid me!
For hunting/showing he wears a pelham and seems to really work well and has a lot of 'lipstick'. However obv I don't want to be riding a non strong horse in a pelham all the time. Would it be worth trying a straightbar snaffle? Tack shop suggested happy mouth straightbar.....
