Got home from Weston at 7 on Sunday to find my pet Silkies completely wiped out by a fox. Only found 2 bodies and both were in full rigor mortis so they must have been dead a couple of hours. Apart from the grisly sight I was so shocked at the daylight attack, never contemplated that. Worst of all two of the girls were broody so he’d got through the fence then two separate pop holes to drag them from their nest boxes. RIP chooks especially Margot and Bluebell who were about to become 1st time mums.

Please learn from my mistake and check the safety of your chooks.

i lost my adored pair of call ducks last week - first fox attack in 6 years of poultry keeping. :(

Although have two new 3 day old ducklings now and they will be guarded in fort knox!

RIP ladies.

I love my lady hens and have had two fox attacks over the years BOTH my fault with one forgotten electric fence and the other my husband thought I'd locked them up and I thought he had.

Nowadays they don't have free range anymore unless I am at home with the dogs around the yard and garden. I've not heard of. Fox attack where dogs are loose so hope someone will correct me if this is unsafe too.

I'm sorry for your loss. We have bought a huge cage which goes over the hen coop. The hens have a little bit of room to scratch around in. We keep them in this when we go out.
It is a shame , I like them to be roaming around, but at least they are safe . Its one of those dog -run cages, chain -link with a roof.
