ok, after finding the mare that i have for sale is 1/10ths lame, and wont obviously pass a vetting, i spoke to my vet etc and she thinks it is unlikely to go away with rest and buute, as she has been rested for ages anyway and still lame, shes not noticable at all, she suuggested i try and sell her without a vetting, which i am loathed to do as dishonest and unfair on mare to be worked if there is a problem, she will only end up being sold on, as much as i want her gone i dont wish this on her.

been put in touch with someone who is willing to take her as she is, he is a showjumper who basically said he would take her and see if it was fixable if so he would compete her and then retire her to stud (he has 2 stallions who are grade A showjumpers) or if gets worse then just breed from her as she has fairly good bloodlines.

now this sounds like the best option for the horse as she will not get sold on etc and has the chance to do really well with a good showjumper, but he wouldnt be able to give me what i paid for her as she isnt sound and he has no guarantee that she will come sound, i think it is maybe better for her to go to him but just wanted you guys to let me know what you thought, i want the best for this horse but i cannot afford to carry on with her, both mentally or financally, so what do you think? is this a good option?

the money is beginning not to matter, it just means that next time round i will have to look for something a little cheaper, but was thinking of buying an ex racehorse to retrain as i have one already, so wouldnt cost much to buy,

he is a genuine guy with a good rep, said he will keep in touch etc and let me know how she goes

again your situation sounds similar to the one I was in, except with my mare it was her behaviour.

I sold her as a broodmare, she had fab bloodlines, and she is much loved and very happy. I lost out on getting more money but I wanted her to go where she wouldnt be sold on.

It sounds like you are facing a similar problem, but healthwise, if the price isnt too low I would go for it, at least your mare will have the chance to do what she enjoys hopefully and also wont be sold on if she cant do it.

I bought a mare for £4000, 6 months later she was lame and was never going to come sound so I sold her to a well known eventing stud for £500. Once they are gone you don't care about the money and it sounds like this guy has a plan for whatever happens.

we think she has been lame for a while, so un noticable so we didnt realise, she feels sound when ridden etc but wouldnt pass on a vetting, our vet thinks it is either just the way she is or is something that will sort its self ouut in time, is not anything you can feel see etc... and is so slight no one but a vet would know, my vet doesnt think is worth nerve blocking as such a slight lameness wouldnt be obvious enough, so the next route is xrays and scans, she has been for sale since september, and was origionally for sale as allergic to trees round our fied so she has had no turnout and is thourghly fed up, the prospect of investigating further has no guuarentees that what ever is wrong can be fixed, and then i am stuck with the same problem, so it is whether i go thouugh all the investigating etc or not, i really dont know

Is this the mare you really don't get on with? In which case pass her on and save up for something else. You never got on with her, and if the s/j will try to get her right or breed from her, then at least she is assured a decent home and won't get sold down the chain. Was she vetted whwen you purchased her? If so, there may be some come back. Were bloods taken? May be worth having a sample tested as she may have been doped when the vetting was done.

is the same mare, have tried really hard to get on with her but just not meant to be,
stupidly bought her without a vetting, she had one done a month previously which she passed fine, so have no comeback, my vet said that she would never of passed her in the first place so i wish i had got her to vet her

she will definatly be vetting the next one though
