Right... so i've *finally* sorted a bit for flatwork/ dressage.. but I really need to find something I can jump in as I had really steering/ stopping issues show jumping at the weekend.

This is the info:
15.3 hh ID x TB - 16 years
I have had him on loan since Nov.

He came to me in a Cherry roller snaffle - which i didn't think was very effective

So for flatwork he seems to go best in a NS demi anky full cheek - already seeing improvements...

Jumping is his favourite and he bowls along getting faster and faster. He isn't strong in a leaning and pulling type of way - but I find it very hard to turn and slow him down around an SJ course (we are working on this through schooling too..)

I have tried the following:
Pelham - leans
Cherry Roller - not much control
Cherry roller balding gag - he throws his head up after jumps with this, but I do have the control, he just objects to it.
kimblewick - leans
NS demi Anky - not much control
KK Ultra RS Dynamic - not much control
Pessoa cherry roller with barrel in the middle so is double jointed. - really leant on this one

He has a tendency to hold his head very high, but strangely in the wrong bit he puts his head right down and leans...

Anyone got a horse like this?! And got any suggestions?
Am not really thinking of a dutch gag as I suspect he will lean on that as well...

Sorry for the essay

waterford? possibly with hanging cheeks to counteract the head up and the waterford mouthpiece will counteract the head down and leaning.

Works with our boy that does both these.

yes waterford... this much misunderstood bit is actually very kind and collaspes on pressure i.e. taking hold etc.. partically impossible to lean on and no hard bars so suits alot of mouths.

you can experiment with which sort, a gag will give you the poll pressure but can sometimes make a horse go behind and too low.. hanging cheeks .... fulmer... or use gag on snaffle ring can have similar effect as fulmer then but you can always drop a ring down if needed

I use a waterford with pickle works really well, I use a loose ring one for schooling and a waterford gag for jumping, works really well, as I can change how strong it is in the middle of a lesson depending how strong he is!

I agree with the waterford, have one of mine in the hanging cheek and she goes lovely, changed to a gag for hunting, but jump her in the hanging cheek no problem....
