At my last yard I was at, we had to buy in hay and bedding ourselves. At the end of September I ordered in 4 large rounds of hay(2 for me and 2 for a friend) . The guy we got it from is relatively young and he's only cut hay and haylage for about 2 summers. I bought a bale from him in the summer there as our normal supplier had ran out. It was really nice stuff so we decided to stick with him for the winter order. Anyway, 3 of the bales were good and 1 of them(mine) was really dusty/mouldy. I assumed it was perhaps the outer layer where it had been lying so took that off but after that came away it was apparent it was all through the bale. The guy agreed to come and take it away and said he'd replace it with a new one. This was all well, but I mentioned to him that I'd be moving yards and that could he leave it until I'd moved . This was fine and he said to get in contact once I was settled.
Now my problem as such! - I'm at a much larger yard and they have their own hay bales which you can buy off them. There's no space to keep large round bales as they have haylage for full liveries etc, and even if there was space I'm sure they'd charge on top of that for storage. So, do you think it's rude if I ask the guy for my money back? If it came to it I'm sure I could somehow store it in my trailer if absolutely necessary. £40 is a lot to be losing
