Hi,

Does anyone know of any reputable racing yards that sell on nice ex racers that are too slow/not cut out for the job? Preferably in the Gloucestershire area.

Thanks :)

Kiri

Hi - not sure of any in Glos but might be worth trying Source An Ex-Racehorse or Final Furlong? Alternatively call up some of the local trainers?

Or if you're not in a mad rush wait until next month's Ascot sales ( think it is the 7th) - I was there last week and there were some really lovely looking horses going for pitifully little money, many were selling on the first bid of £400.

There are number of rehab yards that may be able to help you. Greatwood is worth looking at. Twiston Davis, Jonjo are major yards in the Cotswolds.

Thanks for the replies. In no rush to buy as want to make sure it's the "right" one. Does anyone have any experiences with race yards around Glos area both working for them/buying from them? Thanks :).

A friend of mine is giving up completely and has her ex-racer up for sale. Going very cheap and would prob loan first to see if you get on. Based near Bourton on the Water

I worked for Jonjo And all of the horses were beautifully cared for, all had regular turnout, the ones that needed strengthening work were schooled and received individual fitness and 'needs' plans. Would definitely have one from from there for myself, if I didn't live so far away these days. For such a big yard it's unusual to find such individuals treated as such :)

Have PM'd you as well :)!!

On this year's Grand National TV coverage they were at Jonjo's yard and the horses were trotting round the indoor school. Most of them looked like they could go out and do a dressage test straight away.

Does anyone else have any experience of any other yards around Glos/Bristol area? Or know of any that are currently selling some ex racers... Thanks :)

Amy and seamus Mackey usually have a lot in at lake view stud nr Bristol I don't have the number but you could google it
