Hi, I'm currently looking at purchasing a 7.5T lorry from anywhere within the UK. As I live in North Scotland my intention is to have a pre-sales mechanic check carried out for any I plan on looking at for potential purchase. Is there any central place I can look for one that offers this? I know the AA offer inspections however only for vehicles up to 8 years old, realistically I'm going to be purchasing one 10-15 years old. If there isn't, is there a standard certification that a mechanic would have should I just need to contact local garages and would a car mechanic be able to do a full check or should it be a lorry mechanic? Any advice on how others have done this would be appreciated, sadly 2/3 days to take my local mechanic with me isn't practical. Thanks in advance

There are a couple of companies that offer this service nationally-can't recall their names but have seen them advertise in H&H & on ebay! When I bought mine & thought about buying another I used a local approved Horsebox firm who prepare them for mots etc & they also checked body all over too. They were v reasonable-charged me a couple of hours labour tops & cld also give me a price for any items that needed doing. Don't think you'd want a car mechanic doing this. - get someone who works with horseboxes daily!

I live also in Scotland and we used Brad from Bicester Horse box Hire when buying a lorry from the south east. He is excellent and very, very thorough and willing to travel nationwide.

I recommended him to a friend who use him to inspect a new build and he saved them from buying a very expensive lemon.
