i was with nfu few years ago and there price went horrendous so i never renewed with them never made a claim so i could not understand the hick in price
Good, really. Made a few claims and never refused but don't insure now due to cost and exclusions. I didn't make excessive claims and always let them know if pony had suffered anything a vet needed to see.
Bad, I would never ever insure with them again. I had insured with them for years and never had to claim, then I did need to claim and they prejudiced my claim due to an issue they had with the vet I used for a second opinion (that I had sought their permission to use I might add).
It took me months to get my money back, and I only did so by using the financial ombudsman service.
SEIB's staff were completely unproffessional (telling me on one occaison when my mare had gone non weight bearing, that another couple of days wouldn't hurt her as they didn't want me to get my vet out to see her) and sarky with me - I have the call recordings to prove this. I know of quite a few other people that have had major issues with them also.
I would insure with E&L over SEIB any day of the week.

Sounds very similar to my story, in fact they dismissed the views of the second opinion vet (again I got their approval to do so) even though this vet gave a more accurate diagnosis and knew what treatment to give. They were not prepared to pay for any part of the investigations the first vet recommended but told me I was welcome to pay for them myself.
After further discussions they then said they may pay after the investigations were complete but only if they were satisfactory to them and gave me a list of exclusions which were not mentioned in my inurance policy.
They also claimed not to have received my vet report on 2 occasions even though my vet had faxed it and it went through ok, of course it did I told them to go and look for it and lo and behold they found it, it had been filed.
I wasn't happy with the service they give and I've also heard other people say they've had trouble making a claim. Like alsxx I would rather go with E&L at least you know where you stand with them.
Aren't the FOS excellent. Some insurance companies should take a page out of their book when it comes to communication. For anyone in dispute it is well worth getting them involved if you are not getting a resolution yourself.
