Hi guys,

Went to South of England Saturday to do the Novice with Fitz, had a great journey in the new lorry! Got there and warmed up for the dressage Fitz was in a lovely chilled mood, went in without cantering to keep him calm, went well. Went on to the SJ and he warmed up lovely which was good as he was awful at Purston! Probably because I had lifted the bit but he was so strong at Purston. I went over to say I was ready and she said I could go in!! So off I went didnt have time to get nervous, it was quite a long course and he jumped super duper completely listening to me, just caught the last rail which was my fault but was really happy. They also said I had a dressage score of 32!! 32!! can you beleive it I have shaved ten points off my Purston mark! Must be improving.

Then on to XC very excited as it was much easier then Purston and he breazed round that, I set off over one and two fine, then he backed off number 3 slightly and jumped to the right which is really unlike him!! Then 3 strides or so after number 3 he just stopped in the middle of the field and planted himself and just starred at something!! I kicked and kicked and he wouldnt moved, (this is the horse that rips my arms out usually in a long shank ported myler!) He then proceeded to try and run away from what had scarred him and leap in the air! I had to retire as I didnt want to get eliminated for doubling my time! Didnt have my whip like I should have done as I would have just had to lift that and he would of shot forward!! So so gutting as it wasnt at a fence he doesnt stop at fences he had just caught something out of his eye!!

Spoke to Cressy and this is what he did ocasionally with her when he 1st started out as he was a Sjer before, Looks like I just need to set a reminder in my head to take my whip XC incase he spots something again! As the fences ar enot a problem. I am going XC schooling sat just to have a play then off to Borde Hill Novice!! And I am determined to do well this time!!

Yes he was naughty! But scared as well!

Just need to remember to take my whip with me, but that is difficult as I never ever use one, so its difficult to remember to take it! Will put a reminder up in the lorry!

Yes dressage mark was amazing!

Just a tip, I know of lots of horses than can do that, (at advanced level!) including my own! the one thing you should try to avoid is retiring, as the horse thinks it can get away with it, of course you didnt have a stick so thats tricky, I couldnt care less if i got E becasue i succeded the time, as long as the horse went forwards.

Well done for the fab dressage and sj. Good luck next time!

What a bummer! Sounds very unlike the horse I saw at Purston, are you sure you had the right one?! Big congratulations for the dressage, must have been a lot better than PM, sounds like no cantering worked. I know it's difficult at one-days bu have you tried working him, then puttin ghim back on the lorry for an hour, then getting him out 15 mins before his test?

I know tell me about it! He is so forward going and strong so it was so strange but he is also very spooky! Im so angry with myself for not taking my stick as I would have just had to lift it and he would have shot forward! Oh well I know now for future as I wont be letting that happen again!

And I have been working very hard on his flat, have had three lessons since Purston! And it seems to be paying off!
