Hello Everyone.

My OH and I are considering moving to South Wales (near Swansea/ Black Mountains). I've tried doing some google work to find information about establishments (livery/riding schools) as well as general information about riding in the area, but haven't found much.

Can anyone advise on what it's like for riding and competitions, and what sort of prices you'd be looking at for livery?

Thank you!

Hi,

You want to send Denwyn and/or Llwyncwn messages if they don't get back to you as they both live in the area.
I used to.......have you anywhere in particular you were looking. I lived in the Ammanford/Pontardawe area.

I live in the Neath area. Charlie is at livery nearby. Hacking is excellent in the area. I find that livery is alot cheaper here, than in England. Everybody in the horsy community is very friendly and willing to help. I would definetly get in touch with Llwyncwn about about the area. Very helpul and friendly person, who does her best to help you and give you any information you may need.
I would definetly recommend a move to South Wales, best thing that I have ever done.

I live Chepstow way. Very nice and quite horsy. Lots of hunting and pony club etc.

yes, agree. I pay £2 a day for field, stable, hay and water.

I live in Gower , Swansea, Gower is excellant for hacking , miles of bridleways over commonland, valleys, beaches, if the tide is right out you can ride from Pobbles beach across to oxwich and eight mile stretch

, livery yards aplenty round here, around £10 a week grazing, £25 a week stable and grazing, riding schools are few and far between, lots closed down due to insurance hikes, but a few freelance instructors around

Thanks everyone! Very useful and helpful information indeed! I will definately send a message to Llwyncwn!

We are looking at the area around Ammanford, up towards Brynamman.

Lol. I lived in Cwmgors! My Mother used to live in Brynamman and I know that one HHO member lives there if she hasn't moved. If you are in Upper Brynamman you can ride directly on to miles and miles of mountain, I don't know if you are familiar with mountains or not, if not, learn to recognise the signs for boggy patches.

There is a very local Riding Club, Cwmamman RC, two in fact, I have just forgotten the name of the other one, also at least four Pony Clubs within 20miles that I can think of off the top of my head. Lots of local shows and indoor shows. Plenty of good instructors in the area too Two local hunts. Plenty of livery stables about too, and the place is absolutely full of riders. Also a decent Feed suppliers in Rhos, just along the road, and another in Ammanford.

Beautiful area to live, we spent nine very happy years there.
