Soya Oil - anyone use it?

After im sure reading posts that Soya oil is a good all round supplement and also good for slow release energy, I have started Star on it

Does anyone use it?

I use it for my two and the yearling too, they are lovely and shiney and it hasn't sent the tb nuts

Yep....both mine get some...it helps with general condition and gives them a nice shiny coat too

Yes, add it to the feed for my skinny boy, he is putting on condition ( also on soaked oats diet) and it is non heating

Yep mine has it in winter but have stopped giving it to her now as she gets too fat in summer if she stays on it,she lives on fresh air when the grass comes through! Gave her black coat a lovely sheen,i always get comments about her coat.

Yep - use it in winter for joint supplement - its excellent - also great for weight gain.

I have been using it for the past few weeks, I was going to take some pics this afternoon and post them to show how much hes changed, so check back about 6pm and I should have them up. His coat is wonderful and im sure hes gained condition

Ok so its excellent for coat condition, joints etc but what about that extra bit of energy? Im sure someone said it was good for that...thats what im using it for. Cant really give her any more or different hard food so was trying other options

Hmmmm...it's a slow release energy so not going to give you that fizz that i suspect you are after

What about oats / barley / maize ? Difficult to suggest without knowing what you're already feeding

there is a mineral that should be fed with Soya Oil, can't remember which one, but since I feed Pink Powder all year round anyway I was told that mine would be OK, as a word of warning

never heard of having to feed it with a mineral powder but its great for condition and joints but it doesn`t half stink!!

Stopped feeding it to Diva, she went a bit loopy on it and her coat looked awful. Have fed it to others who did really well on it though. I put it down to not agreeing with her!

I believe its vitamin D and selenium that need to be fed, to ensure the free radicals its breakdown releases are neutralises. (could be a load of tosh but I remember reading that somewhere before I put my girls on soya oil. So I always feed it with a gp supplement)

Not after 'fizz' so much just maybe stamina and energy. She lives on fresh air and anything other then normal nuts can send her a bit loopy.

At the moment she is just fed a scoop of horse/pony nuts for dinner and half for morning - I dont think thats enough what with competing etc but cant really go along the lines of feed changes well apart from Staypower muslie which ive tried before...

Diva at the time was having a few 'Diva' issues so we stopped it and I'm too scared to try it again just in case it was that! I now feed her Top Spec and she is just right.

yes started using it this winter as my old boy dropped a bit of weight, used the advice given on here. Its cheap and seemed to work quite well for me!

It's not just with Soya oil - Any oil fed over 100ml/day needs selenium & vitamin E supplementation to allow proper absorbtion of it

No know I just use Top Spec (I'm sure the oil made her loopy!) and she looks great on it - but then as her mummy I am biased.
Her halo slipped slightly tonight - but by the end it was firmly back in place and shining brightly

I use it, and swear by it. Have a TBx who fizzes up on anything, and soya oil leaves him holding his weight (a bit too well lately!) and with a much nicer coat than he used to have.

I did use it - but vet told me not to waste my money - told me to use corn oil - cheap as chips from the supermarket - and works just as well! My mare has lovley shiney coat and it has def helped her weight gain! And costs about 60p a bottle!

But I have to admit I wasnt aware you should feed it with extra vits, I just feed pink powder anyway.

Baron gets a cupfull a day split between 2 (sometimes 3) feeds.

You can buy soya oil from the supermarket. In fact I can't think where else you'd get it from... 80p litre in Tesco.

Hi, I have been feeding it for a week now when I gradually changed her feed over after asking for advice on here. I bought mine from feed merchant, it is over 3 litres tub and cost £5.75.
I shall look in Tesco next time I go shopping tho as I didn`t realise it was sold in supermarkets.
She is a little more fizzy -which is what I wanted - but I don`t know if it is the oil or the change in feed, or the spring grass. But I certainly don`t want her to put any weight on this time of year.

I was just about to say Finn and Twiglet both have it, but Twiglet got there before i could mention her.

Use it to give Finni energy without silliness and he's been fine on it. He also has a scoop of fibre cubes morning and evening and Pink Powder
