I saw my specialist yesterday re my fractured ankle. He asked me if there were any problems and I said I was still getting pain down the front of my foot. To whihc he replied 'you blooming riders are all the same, you come in here all smashed up expect us to put you back together, Oh you are grateful for 2 mins because you didn't think we could really fix it. But then 3 mins later you want it brand new again so you can go and ride, NO patience you lot!!. He did say it with a huge grin and laughed but then told me 'honestly I don't know if it will ever be any better than it is

It hurts a fair bit when I ride and try and get my weight down, which I am finding I am having to do more on Samson cos he is so fine, I could get away with sitting on my butt more on Beacon but to be stable I really have to get my weight down thro the stirrups on Samson (does that make sense???)

Looked at the xrays which he said were good, god if thats good I'd hate to see bad, there is a mass of weird shaped bone where there was just a nice single bone before ho hum

Do you use the flexible rubber sided stirrup irons? They help with ankle pain a lot. I'm sure putting weight on your ankle with riding must help promote a healthy blood supply to the area, perhaps there are exercises you could do to help strengthen the ankle and the supporting joints and ligaments? Such as heel raises?

I broke my sternum when I was younger, continued riding for a wk, but only in walk and in great pain, thinking it was (just ribs) and showing everyone the wonderful bulls eye bruising. Sat up one morning in bed and it spilt, ouch. Still only went to Dr, he said, exactly the same as your Sp, and added lithe young lassies shouldn't be doing with great big horses. I took no notice and we went to the hospital for x-rays, he rang ahead and had them put me on the strongest sleep inducing pills you have ever tried, I slept for 2 weeks, haha, later he said it was the only was he was sure I wouldn't ride. Hmmm

Yup - I don;t think Dr's like us riders much... Whenever I've gone in with a riding related injury I've just got along the lines of - you horse riders - you do it to yourselves...

My favourite was when I broke my thumb/hand - I got to A&E and was x-rayed etc - it was pretty clear it was broken (thumb hanging off) and when the Dr came back he said "this is a clasic example of what happens to bones when a metal shoe with the force of a 750kg animal behind it makes contact with bone - its smashed you silly girl"...

My Mum nearly fell over laughing!!!

Well we like to keep them busy, what else would doctors do if they didn’t have to put us lot back together?????

I think more doctors should take up riding then they would understand us a bit more. We need to be in the saddle ASAP and it is there job to make that happen.

Yes I use the sprenger ones I got them to help with my bad hip and knees lol. The physio is giving me exercises but its a slow process as I have RA and it keeps flairing up in my knees so making it impossible to do some of the exercises. HO HUM just keep at it lol

My doctors eyes lit up with glee when I came hobbling in with a pain in my foot. I'd been trodden on a few weeks earlier by a pony who to add insult to injury spun around on my foot before removing his!

Reason for the glee - doctor grabbed his book and with a look of great triumph declared I had a 'Mortons neuroma' a growth on the nerve between two toes.

Packed me off to hospital for it's removal and testing - not cancerous - bit very painful once removed - put my foot down too hard too soon - nearly threw up with the pain.

I now have two numb toes!
