have been promoted to the Meydan FEI Nations Cup. Canada have not definately decided to competed next year and if they dont, poland will take the place as they came third in barcelona today.
yeah they bought at least two of them from the british isles which is why all this rubbih about us not having horses gets on my nerves. we have them we just cannot keep them.
As I've mentioned before Poland USED to have a good team back in the mid 1960s and of course did well at the 1980 Olympics when none of the western European nations or the Americans took part. They would really be out of place in the Super League, and I suspect they'd not have the resources to travel to all the events which is a condition of taking part.
Regarding the ridiculous format of all teams starting the Final on zero, I have been told by the BEF that there was a meeting during the Euros at Windsor during which riders protested about it, and they expect it to be changed next year.
I think you need to get past this who 'should' be allowed in the super league thing sjfan. If they qualify and want to do I say fair play to them and good luck. Quite frankly they couldnt look anymore out of place than we did at times this season.
as for the format i am sure you are right about the protest, i bet a few riders protested strongly!! Funny how none of those thought it was that unfair when the FEI introduced a 'semi final' round into the world cup for the 'lesser' leagues with exactly this format but of course next year it might be us that have one bad day in barcelona rather than Norway.
Anyway as the FEI had to give Barcelona something for slinging the show out of the super league, so the Final is staying and staying there, and i think what will happen is that the top promotional team will get automatic promotion and the next five will jump off so to speak for the other place, which is essentially what they did with the world cup thing.
and i am not sure the canadians wont make the effort anyway. they have plenty of horses and riders many of whom lack experience of internationals and with the world championships and the olympics imminent they could send a few over to get some.
I'm afraid they would look a lot more out of their depth. I'm not suggesting that they have bad riders, but lack resources: they only contested 3 Nations Cups in the whole series this year and did not enter the European Championships. Do you know for sure that none of the riders who protested on this occasion (I know no names of those involved) protested at the semi-final round format for the World Cup? I have to say there used to be some horrible sights at the World Cup Finals because some, though of not all those qualifying from the E & Central European, Asian Pacific & S American Leagues were not up to the opening leg let alone the other two legs.
Interested to see that Michael has retired as Hungary's manager.
Guess we'll have to agree to disagree about some things, while we continue to completely agree that the FEI needs a radical overhaul. it's not only show jumping they make a mess of!
michael retired in the spring, he just made a cameo appearance we called it this weekend cos jamie was jumping i suppose. He said he was getting too old to travel to thre star and less shows and since the FEI increased the prize fund demands on CSIO even in the lower leagues, the better ones were crashing and burning.
and the reason i know that no western european riders protested at he world cup semi rule was that it was me that highlighted it, wrote articles and engaged in firm dialogue with the FEI about it. now they might not have changed it entirely because of mer and my stirring but i bet it helped!
as for poland and your comments regarding them and the world cup we will never agree on this because i think you are a bit out of touch. the bare results do not tell the whole story like for example the Poles did enough in the nations Cups they contested to get to barcelona why do more? They reckoned they might third best and concentrated on Barcelona instead of making the hideous for them journey to windsoe where they certainly were not third best. They have an excellent Chef in place, a good infrastructure developing and some decent horse.
as for horrible sights there are plenty of them in this country and the first rounds in th world cup are supposed to weed out the also rans. JUst because we think we could do better is no reason for them not to have a chance if they have properly qualified, it is no different from eventing. yes our riders usually look more polished they have a bit more opportunity dont they but I dont begrudge the other nations their chance to see if they can aspire to something greater. There was a czech rider Pepo Puch who was a right character and jumped round a few decent tracks and everytime he even finished one you would think he had won burghley.
I just cant bear the they are not good enough so dont let them have a chance attitude.
and just for the record there are several CSIO's that the Poles usually travel too which have been cancelled this year like Zagreb, Prague, and Budapest. There was also a polish team in bucharest last year but that was camcelled and the replacement was only a 2** so not on the list you were probably consulting but i bet they went there as well.
